No problem. Just read through posts a little more carefully before you start ripping people's musical tastes.

berating someone? i go to the store daily, I know the manager... he was equally annoyed, and was glad a customer wanted it off as well... i'm sure everyone else in the store was annoyed... I mentioned it to a few others who agreed, everyone was able to deal with the first Phil Collins song, but after the second or third, it gets out of hand.

    1. i kinda like phil collins

    2. i recently watched a genesis reunion concert of some sort on palladia, and phil's stage moves were incredible. most notably on the song "i can't dance".

    3. this thread is hilarious.

Honestly, what would be worse... Phil Collins or Yanni in the grocery store.

We could make it a triple threat and throw in Michael McDonald...

Michael McDonalds work with Steely Dan is awesome, and he did good work with the Doobies too. More proof that an artist can change over time.

For me it's Rod Stewart. His early stuff is great, but good lord did he waste his talent.

Yep, you can definitely hear his voice on the background vocals on Peg.

Now I've been forced to wikipedia Michael McDonald:

    Steely Dan

Michael McDonald first gained wide attention as an adjunct member of the group Steely Dan, providing back-up vocals on tracks for 1975's Katy Lied. He would return on subsequent Steely Dan recordings including 1976's The Royal Scam as well as both "Peg" and "I Got the News" from the 1977 album Aja. He also played keyboards on some Steely Dan tracks. McDonald continued to do background vocals for Steely Dan up to their 1980 release, Gaucho. He also was a member of the final incarnation of the early '70s Steely Dan touring band, playing keyboards/piano and singing backup.

Williamsburg is still a hotspot, pitchfork is still wildly popular and influential, and bands in the scene now win Album of the Year grammys.
Williamsburg is full of unbearable tw*ts. So is Pilsen. So is every formerly low-income, minority neighborhood that these trust fund brats are invading. These hipsters are doing all the gentrification gays used to do without any of the beautification... hell, usually they make things look worse on purpose cause it's more "urban"

If "indie" has gotten a bad rap it's cause its clientele sucks 8-)

    peace out, phil

Have you ever listened to three sides live? Listen to the guy sing and play drums on me and sarah jane or the in the cage medley. Or the roof is leaking from the secret policeman's other ball.
Phil Collins was a lot more than the pop slop that is groovy kind of love, two hearts or sussudio.
And zeppelin asked him to play at live aid because he isnt a musician?
C'mon man-your hyperbole is so off the mark.

odd story. i guess he's done. i posted a thread on him during the summer. some of the biggest names in indie were featured in a mini documentary talking about how huge he is to them and their music.

Its funny or kind of sad, because he's been a punchline for years. the whole south park thing, where he was mercilessly torn to shreds, and sort of the whole idea that his music was a joke was prevelent through the 90's and even the 2000's.

What is seems like from the interview where he announced he's done with music, is that he feels his career was worthless, that success, the success he had caused people to hate the music because it was overplayed.

He even went as far as to apologize for his music and career.

sad stuff, because In the Air Tonight is an undeniably great song. As is the Genesis tune No Son of Mine

I'm a longtime fan of Collins. Hate to see him retiring. I never got to attend one of his shows.
