I am sorry but i hear absolutly no creativity when I listen to (st/bs) even the art work is very juvenile.
Hopefully their go back to their experimental / creative side.

I agree, they seemed like they went back to their roots with Avocado, and with BS, well, it sounded like an EV record rather than a PJ record. I would love to hear a more creative album in the future.

The real Mike really hasn't been on an album in quite a while. It's almost like they have completely abandoned the guitar solo after Vitalogy. A couple here and there on each album but not enough in my opinion. In fact Stone probably has just as many.

It's not just Backspacer. He hasn't had a memorable solo since NAIS and that was 11 years ago.

There aren't any great solos on Avocado. Severed Hand and comatose are average solos. the days of alive, black, why go, Go, Animal, rearviewmirror, Corduroy, Betterman, etc haven't been heard in a very, very long time. I'm talking classic lead guitarist rock solo's.

Now we are left with fill in lead riffs that are great but they seem to have completely gone technical over traditional. Not my favorite thing but I still love the band.

Yep that's what I meant. They have gone with technical little lead riffs instead of traditional ripping guitar solos.

  • i don't think they have it in them... they just seem too disjointed at this point in their lives to come together as a band and camp out in the studio long enough to pull it off... radiohead have an experimentally-minded front man to kind of bring those disparate ideas together... ed's got more of a punk rock mind set

besides, matt's the most musically experimental of all of them and everyone always hates on his tracks

they gotta do something different though... the past 2 have been totally phoned in IMO

He doesn't have to shred all the time. Sometimes the smallest solos do so much to a song; like Come Back.

Also, Vitalogy barely had any solos.

Pearl jam defintely cannot pull what radiohead does. But they can experiment a little bit. Of The Earth is a great example of experimentation, and that song was generally loved by everyone.

If they do experiment in that way, alot of the contributions would probably be from Matt. He seems to be the one band member who is the most creative in experimentation. Have you heard the original version of "The Fixer"? I love that version more than the original.

:lol: Matt?!!! are you serious?!!! After the fixer he should be stripped of any involvement in the creative process!!

Ed is very creative......I still wanna hear his Techno album!!

Yes Matt. He has alot more unique ideas than anyone in the band when it comes to "experimentation". The original "Fixer" was experimental, its Ed that "ruined" it. In the Moonlight, You Are, stuff he wrote in Wellwater Conspiracy, are all alot more experimental than anything PJ has done in awhile.

Did we just have a comparison of Come Back's solo to Betterman and Corduroy(which may both be in his top 5)? Not to mention the solo he now adds to Spin the Black Circle now live. When did I say he had to solo all the time? I said he hasn't had one of those "Oh Yeah!!!!" solos since Nothing As it Seems and that was 11 years ago.

PJ could write some bad ass songs if they'd actually take advantage of the time signatures that mofos capable of
i think they oughta let him do lead vocals on a song too... i like his voice on some of the wellwater stuff and PJ demos

LOCK MATT AND JEFF IN A ROOM TOGETHER UNTIL THEY PRODUCE GOLD... stone and ed can focus on the rock stuff... mike can solo over everything

To me, his solos in Get Right and Down are one of those "Oh yeah"'s.

yeah, i think riot act has probably his best solos aside from vs. as amazing as vitalogy is, its pretty slim on soloing. immortality is about it...maybe stone in not for you too.

seeing how some Radiohead fans are hating on the new album and the direction they have taken from their roots, I'd say it could potentially be suicide for PJ.

i, however invite creativity. avacado and backspacer were the weakest links in my opinion, and i dont think they could get much worse if they tried some experimenting (not saying i dont like those albums, they're just my least favorite out of their catalog). step away from the safety zone. let mike and stone write some songs. call up Nigel Godrich. With Nigel, PJ could do some amazing stuff.
The New RH album is actually growing on me... there are a few songs in there that i don't "get" yet.. and maybe never will... i particularly like the little thing i heard... "realised" this morning... it's something about those birds chirping :D and digital scratchiness.... I think Radiohead are trying to say we're living ina Digital world... and all the sounds around us are... well i've gotten too deep now i'll shut up :D

The album is haunting.. i'll give it that. And i know I keep repeating myself.. but good music takes time to learn and take in... then you can judge... people hating this album have not given it enough time... it's a piece of art... Radiohead's art. New sounds and things emerge and occur to me everyday listening... A definite "thinker" of an album

Anything would work for Pearl Jam.. they've already gone experimental... take Vitalogy... Aye Davinita... Foxy Mop. Privacy... Yield's - Red Dot... just to name a few.

i would love to hear a different sound coming from pearl jam. it doesn't have to be as drastic as Kid A, but a slight change would be refreshing.

I'm really glad you said this. Although I'm not a huge fan of his drum sound compared to the previous drummers, I love the uniqueness of his songs. He's got mad technical skills.

am i the only one who wants mike to stop playing solos (on future work... not in concert)?
it's not that i hate them, it's just that he's proven to us that he can play a kick ass solo or two. i'd love to see him write a song that shows how original he can be. look at GIven To Fly. that's some of his best work. Present Tense... also pretty kick ass. his work with Mad Season was also very impressive. River Of Deceit is one of my favourite songs by him.

You know what? I think if we got these guys (Matt, Mike, Jeff, and Ed) together they could put together one hell of a record. Why haven't they done that before? Oh wait.... ;)

I have often wondered if PJ would ever do a concept/rock opera type album along the lines of Tommy, Quad, the Wall, or Greendale....
