doompony, this seismologist reckons that there is now an increased chance of a big one hitting Wellington. http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/top-storie ... e-to-come/ Why am I moving there again? (kidding)

I'm starting to worry about Miss Doompony too.

official death toll now standing at 71. they're saying that the reports of 300 still missing was inaccurate because there are likely far more people missing, but the police have taken over the missing persons list to get rid of double ups and investigate each one. they're saying that the list contains people who will have packed up and left the city in a hurry without telling others like neighbours, and if those neighbours have expressed concern about them they'll stay on the list until they've been contacted.

no more rescues have happened overnight but a heap of rescue workers from overseas have arrived and they're hopeful that there will still be people trapped who are still alive.

Wow you guys certainly have some heroic people don't you? It's amazing to see these ordinary people with their business suits or trademan's overalls working to get these people out of those buildings, in fact I have seen more of them than police!!!! What an awesome town, so sorry this happened guys. :(

Even though I'm not in Chch I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone who are sending their best wishes to our people. The whole world is behind us and that is so heart warming. Teams from Australia, Taiwan, Japan, USA, UK and Singapore are either here or on their way to help. Thank you.

I know! It's amazing. There was this guy on the news last night, not a big man mind you, just heaving large chunks of masonry from the rubble of the cathedral. Just amazing. My heart and healing vibes being sent to Kiwis everywhere.

There is truly amazing stuff going on down there. People banding together, companies sending stuff down, so many people coming from all around the globe to help but jeez do they need it all. Looking dreadful, dreadful, dreadful down there. Our big milk processing company has sent tankers of milk down, then emptied the tankers & filled them with water to send down. Things like that. So many people still trapped, or missing.

The lack of rescues is concerning....I thought would have found more people alive by now.

they gave up on the CTV building yesterday and have switched to recovery, not rescue.

confirmed 92 dead and the police are just about to name the people killed.

    238 missing still.
  • doomponydoompony Posts: 4,497
giving up on the CTV rescue i mean, not rescues in other places. but yeah, they don't seem to have found anyone for a while.
  • doomponydoompony Posts: 4,497
    98 bodies. 226 missing.

there's a press conference now with the police on the news...
  • morellomorello Posts: 6,212
I'm just watching a police spokesman on the evening news at the moment as well & 98 bodies definitely confirmed, still being identified.

this is all so sad. so many lives. i thought the floods here were devastating, but this is terrible.

my wife's aunty lives in Littleton, which is where the epicentre was and was pretty badly hit. luckly she was not home and is fine, but her house was damaged, but i don't think she was been able to get there to see how badly.

103 dead, 228 missing news reports are saying this morning. 5 new bodies overnight, no rescues. 75% of city now has power, 50% has water running again. Lots of army folk down there helping out overnight. Cliffs in seaside suburbs collapsing. Amazing rescues being shown on tv right now & aftershocks are decreasing.

There's rain forecast for today but at least people can possibly collect the water.

  • morellomorello Posts: 6,212
147 bodies now & no-one rescued alive since Wednesday. It's still horrendous down there although there's the stories of people who were rescued now. Lots of people still without power &/or water, schools & university still closed.
