Toronto 2 2006 Starting us off on a high note, this version of Release is near perfection. Ed's vocals and the ambiance in the verses are wonderful. WWS comes in second, starting a trio of Avocado songs. Ed's screams are livid. Life Wasted and Severed Hand follow. Both are energetic, tight plays. Hail Hail's intro is one of the best I've heard. The guitar play between Mike and Stone is intricate in the opening of the tune, and here it sounded perfect to me. The mix is just right here because when Jeff's riffs need to really stand out in the song, they do here. Ed mismatches a line or two towards the end, but it takes nothing away from this fantastic rendition of Hail Hail. The set flow is smooth as silk moving into Unemployable. To be only the second gig of the 2006 tour, the band sounds utmost synchronized. Dissident is pretty good, but there was a moment where Mike sounded a bit off. It's not particularly distracting at all and it's very brief; it may not be perfect but the band come off lively and focused. I too enjoyed Matt's patterns during the bridge of Dissident. He doesn't add too many hits and it feels heavier that way. Even Flow is extra groovy tonight at a slower tempo than the usual really fast 2006 norm. Stone and Matt play some very subtle but interesting stuff, namely Matt's high hat work and Stone's riffs on the solo. Ed tells the crowd that they have topped last night’s crowd, the first night in Toronto. Quite peculiar, but cool, Corduroy is next (mid set and after Even Flow). Listen to Mike and Matt, both sound exceptional. Matt's cymbal work is energetic, also great tom work at the end. Mike's subtle riff in the choruses is ear pleasing and more noticeable than usual. Overall, it's one of the best versions of Corduroy for me. Calming down a bit, we get an engrossing pairing of I Am Mine-Low Light. The last four songs make for an intriguing mid main set, a very strong one at that.
Before launching into Whipping, an interesting mid tempo improv is played that serves well as a transition. A failed attempt at You Are is funny. The second attempt is solid, but isn't quite perfect (lyrics are off). I did quite like how Mike sounded in the outro. I Got Shit is haunting to follow, and is incredibly powerful all around. Ed's vocals and the outro from everyone are strong. It doesn't look like much on paper, but Betterman coming in next really feels right in terms of flow. It is a burst of liveliness and energy. Ed's vocals are soaring again and musically sound so uplifting. Not to belabor the point, but Ed's vocals are amazing at this gig. His vocals in Jeremy are haunting and beautiful. He says it's starting to feel like church up there with all the singing, appropriately Marker is next. Echoing the spirit of essentially all of the main set, it's tight and lively. It's hard to believe this is so early in the tour. Stone's intro to Black sounds brighter, a touch thinner, and much more peaceful than usual. It allows Mike's subtle riffs to shine through brilliantly in much of the song. Ed holds out the long note too, and it's just a truly lovely rendition of Black. RVM, coming across as a true epic follows to end the absolutely wonderful main set. The jam and even coming out of the jam are awesome. Stone plays a moody riff that's pretty tasty. Mike too is a powerhouse in the final chorus.
The first encore is every bit as incredible as the main set. Wasted Reprise-Man of the Hour-Small Town stretch is so gorgeous and eloquently done. Ed's voice shines like warm light on all three. I got chills on MOTH, and hearing the crowd clap along too helped. The trio together like that really works perfectly. SOLAT is blistering. As quick as it is, I thought Mike's tone and tempo at the intro of SOLAT was great. Matt too comes off very forceful in the tight, no nonsense play. Mike's chug-like riffs in DTE are upfront in the mix, he and Matt are on fire! Matt adds some extra beats that make it feel so driving. Alive ends the encore, and listen for Ed's scream during the solo/jam. It's a potent and long scream, a burst of raw energy. Ed praises the crowd several times in this encore, stating it feels like the first real night of the tour.
This rendition of Go is tied with Vitoria 06 as my favorite version of the Vs rocker. I'm not exaggerating when I say the whole band is putting on their best, heaviest work. That being said, it starts with a soft improv, Ed's vocals only. Then, Mike and Stone sound tight and hard hitting in the intro. Ed's vocals are strong, and the screams are fiery. Matt does quite a bit of extra high hat work that's pure excitement. Lastly, Mike's work on the outro is incredibly tasty and like adrenaline. It starts heavy as hell and ends the same way, all the way through it is gold. What a method to start the last bit of the show! Sean Kinney, AIC’s drummer, gets wished a big happy birthday from the crowd that Ed tapes on stage apparently; really cool. Crazy Mary is next. Mike's solo is very melodic and haunting. After a crowd chant for Stone during band introductions, we move into Fuckin Up; certainly an energetic way to go into it. I thought the vocals at the end sounded great. Indifference is somber and of highest quality; Stone and Ed especially. One more, Ledbetter sends the show off well. Something has Ed cracking up, like he's laughing hysterically at something several times in the first verse. At the end of YL, Mike starts a Rolling Stones tag, and Ed joins in for a few lines. Any show that ends with Beast of Burden must be a good one! If it was not obvious, I adored this bootleg. Toronto 2 2006 is not only one of the very best 2006 bootlegs, but ranks pretty high on my list for best bootlegs all around.

While we have everyone here... There's a good friend of mine who's worked on a certain cause... It's something called Ningaloo Reef... Sounds like it's one of the most beautiful places in the world... And it sounds like now is the time to be active on it, so it doesn't turn into Miami Beach, Florida... So, I guess there's a website called ningalooreef.com... You can check on, find out how to be active... I guess it goes down in the next few months... And I guess you've got a guy called Geoff Gallop... Representing... He knows it's the right thing to do... It's not that they don't wanna do anything there... It's just that they wanna do it properly, and not let man take over, and ruin one of the few reefs that still exist in that kind of form... He knows what the right thing to do is... He just needs public support so he knows politically it works out for him to do the right thing, and you can do that... You can show him by just supporting him, writing, and attending any rallies that might happen in the next few months... Cause it's evolution... And you gotta participate... Thanks for letting me say that... ~ Eddie Vedder
"Throughout the show Vedder spoke of his experiences in Western Australia. He related the story of how, when the band played Perth in 2003, they met a "7-foot tall man". That man told the band of the campaign to save Ningaloo Reef and asked if they would speak up for it. Vedder expressed the band's joy at hearing that this time round the conservations won, before dedicating The Fixer to the 7-foot man - "our good friend Mr Luc Longley".
