    if pj 20 alpine happens
im arriving sat 3 to chicago 2:20 pm, if theres a gig on that date, how much time is for going directly ORD to alpine valley with traffic and all labor day weekend issues? im worry about this but more worried for drivin ALPINE- WINSCONSIN AFTER THER SHOW, HOW MUCH TIME IS IT, COUNTING TRAFFIC DELAY ON PARKING LOT?

If any one knows good hotels $90-120 range at WISCONSIN AND CHICAGO, i would aprecciate it

    my grammar sucks.
Could take you an hour, could take 3 hours. Impossible to speculate the traffic, but it's likely to be very heavy. The majority of the distance to Alpine from O'Hare are highways with stop lights and signs. Sometimes two lanes, sometime one. If traffic is heavy in the communities you drive through things can get very bad in a hurry. If you have alternatives I highly recommend coming in on Friday or earlier on Saturday.

http://www.kayak.com for hotels. Use Elkhorn, WI or East Troy, WI to search for spots close to the venue. Good luck!

Hmmm are you refering to Richmond off 12? Hahhah what a joke that traffic is there..From ohare up 294 to 47...you have to leave ohare between 10-2..dont attempt after 3 or 4 ish...brutal heading north on 294 during rush hour.

Tell me about it! I remember when Rage played at Alpine a few years ago - it took us 5 HOURS to get there from Chicago - but much of that was due to construction and the rain. That's an extreme situation but it can happen. It was still the best concert of my life!

I think that 5 hours is probably on the long side and is more of anomoly than the rule. Additionally, if this was happening on Friday the travel times would be longer. Friday can be a mass exodus to Wisconsin for lake/summer homes especially on labor day weekend which is a popular weekend to close up summer cotteges. If the shows are longer due to multiple acts, traffic getting into the parking lot may not be as backed up either. I think two hours may be reasonable on a Saturday.

You should NOT count on Madison Square Garden.

It is closed for construction until October...I think. http://msgtransformation.com/Construction.aspx

ditto to rhino MSG is out of the question until the rangers open their season in october, they even moved the liberty to newark for their basketball season

question about flying in, is it a shorter trip to AV from Chicago or Milwaukee? Really looking forward to this, but i have no experience with Alpine Valley and hope you experts here could guide a long time PJ fan.

Also thinking about driving in but i think it's 14 hours from NY, decisions decisions...

DEReam13 is right - I'm sorry I didn't mean to freak you out about my 5 hour trip! Like I said, it was definitely not the norm, there were torrential downpours and construction the whole way there. I would say on average it takes about 2 hours to get there. Good luck, I'm sure it'll work out fine 8-)

    Again, IF IT HAPPENS....
I figured that I would start an 'info thread' to help answer people's questions.... since I have received many pm's about it already.

I'm not an expert by any means, but I will try to compile some info for travel, lodging, and what-not.
Feel free to add your own info or pm me any additional links and such to add to the original post.

    Hope this helps! :D

I was thinking about house rentals. I have looked into a few, close to Lake Geneva which is a very touristy town with more to offer in the vicinity.

There is always anywhere around Milwaukee as well, but that is going to be a bit longer of a drive- especially after a looong day/night of rockin'- but much more options.

-Even if it is more money to fly into milwaukee, you will definately save the headache and 2+ hours getting in from Chicago... plus the rental car.

The venue is in the middle of nowhere, but there are plenty of hotels in the surrounding areas... And, when they say it is a 15-20 min. drive to somewhere, it will be just that. The only traffic that you will have to deal with around the venue is fellow concert-goers, not crazy city dwellers (besides all you east coasters, road trippin' it in ;) ).

I will be arriving a few days before the show as The Smashing Pumpkins are my joint favourite band with PJ so I wanna check out various things.

Plan is to land in Chicago, find somewhere to stay, mosey round for a day or two, then figure out how to get to Alpine. My friend has a room booked in Delavan so it would be getting to there first I guess and she probably won't want to be touristy in Chicago.

    I've done some digging around.

For those who are driving in to Wisconsin, or flying in and renting a car to drive, you should be aware of seasonal road construction so that you can plan accordingly.

Here are some websites which detail the road construction on Interstate 94 N/S and E/W in the corridor from the southern border with Illinois all the way up to the downtown Milwaukee area. They also include the I-894 loop which is, by the map, just north of the airport.

Construction project management website with access to webcams and live traffic status.
