It will happen @ Alpine over two days late summer/early fall.

    Pearl Jam
    Neil Young
    The Strokes
    Temple of the Dog
    more TBA

No Camping, that got shut down by the band because they didn't want it to be a "festival," they wanted it to be two separate shows. eddie's recent chicago tribune interview sorta confirms this.

    See you there!
    It's all happening....

    East Troy 2003
    Chicago x2, Summerfest x2, 2006
    Chicago THE VIC, Lollapalooza, 2007
    bonnaROOOOOOO 2008
    Chicago x2 2009

I think these travel times are without traffic.
ill be so many hours at airplanes can hadle a few hours traffic :D

I live in Chicagoland and you can't get anywhere without traffic, but I didn't want people to get the wrong concept of how long it takes to get to these places driving and make bad travel plan decisions around them.

Neil is touring with Buffalo Springfield right after this weekend with two shows at Red Rocks. The Red Rocks shows are not announced yet but it came out because they were denied a show in Telluride on September 9 by the town council due to conflict with the Blues & Brews Fest. So the Labor Day dates are still open for Neil, maybe he'll bring the Springfield along.

I am also still obsessively hoping for a Pete, Roger or Who guest appearance. Daltrey's North American "Tommy" tour was announced today, it's starting in Florida on September 13.

    ***UPDATE ON ALPINE VALLEY***

So I talked to a guy I work with at the Brewers who has season tickets at Alpine Valley. Now I know, many are thinking that yeah, yeah, yeah I know a guy who knows a guy, who knows a guy. But I work in ticket sales myself and he has been working in this area a lot longer than I have. So I trust him. :)

Well he has heard that PJ wants to have a three night affair and since the Grateful Dead tore the place up on a long stand in 1989, Alpine Valley and or the city of East Troy do not allow more then two nights in a row for bands.

The last he had heard, the talks were ongoing, but he had also heard that it was in jeopardy.

The dates were definitely Labor Day weekend though he wasn't sure if it were actually on labor day or just that weekend.

Hope they can or have finalized, because I really want it to be at Alpine. He is going to look into it for me, so I will let everyone know if I hear more. But from what I gather we may get the announcement next week anyway.

This is real interesting. I did some quick research on this. The Dead had a 3 day run in 1989 that is considered legendary if you believe the reviews on Archive.org. On the third night it rained and rained and the lawn was pretty badly damaged. Someone noted:

As if the two previous nights weren't killer. This one was unforgettable. What a mess with all the rain!

I went to see The Who a few days later. Great band, but what a buzz-kill. "The lawn" had all these craters throughout, and it was impossible to quit thinking about the bomb that had been dropped a few days earlier.

So if it was the rain and 40,000 deadheads, they should loosen up. PJ fans will promise to be well-behaved :)

If they can get three nights, I hope they can rotate the reserved fixed seats so most of us get at least one night relatively close in, and two nights on the lawn.

Also hope it's Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks for that info! I was interested to learn more about those three nights of Dead shows.

Could take you an hour, could take 3 hours. Impossible to speculate the traffic, but it's likely to be very heavy. The majority of the distance to Alpine from O'Hare are highways with stop lights and signs. Sometimes two lanes, sometime one. If traffic is heavy in the communities you drive through things can get very bad in a hurry. If you have alternatives I highly recommend coming in on Friday or earlier on Saturday.

http://www.kayak.com for hotels. Use Elkhorn, WI or East Troy, WI to search for spots close to the venue. Good luck!
