  • the strokes circa 2001 were just so effortlessly cool. Their look, the sound of the music, the vibe all of it. Is This It, is one of the most important albums of our generation, and the whole indie band thing, indie obsessed music fans that have set the trends for the last 10 years or more, its all sort of started in 2001 with the strokes, the white stripes and the hives all all the "the" bands. Even though they were and always have been on a major label, the strokes are as much responsible for the indie rock scene as pitchfork, or the oc or death cab or anyone else

Yes, you probably are. Though, "You only live once" is my favorite song by them.

If any Strokes fans havnt heard Albert Hammond Jr's 2 solo albums, do yourself a favor and get them. Julian's is good too, but Albert's rival the Strokes' albums.(his first might be better than any Strokes album)

The OC had quite a few indie bands on that were really good who never really followed up their first albums with anything good. The Subways are a great example, I remember them being on the show in 2005 and then their debut album coming out and being great, but then their second album came out and they fell off the face of the earth. Also please nobody shoot me here for being an OC fan, they did play a Mark Lanegan song once!

I was into the Strokes big time about 8-10 years ago and I remember a lot of kids being into them. This one kid wore a Strokes shirt to school almost every day. I hope the new album doesn't suck.

Haha - no. Vision of Division is the bomb though. But, just listening to their albums, I don't understand why First Impressions doesn't get any credit. It's all killer, no filler. :D

im not ashamed to be a fan of the show. the show changed my music taste, and i became an indie fan and have been ever since. the impact that show had on many of us here, and in terms of exposing people to the music that is so popular now, its pretty amazing
  • Hmmm, having trouble getting on the Strokes website to hear the single. Must be a ton of people crashing the site.

Yep, I still miss it to this day. Great show, hot chicks, kick ass soundtracks.

Regarding the new Strokes single, I heard it on YouTube but on their website they have an MP3 but I don't want to give them my cell phone number, can somebody reupload it here?

"Room On Fire" is still my favorite by them, but I would agree Albert Hammond Jr.'s 2 solo albums are both better than "First Impressions"... both really great albums and helped get through 5 years of no new Strokes stuff. Actually sounds like he might be doing some of the backing vocals on the new single, but could be wrong. The Julian Casablancas solo album from last year was also really good, got more into it the more I listened to it. Loving this new Strokes song and can't wait for this album. I read somewhere that Nick Valensi said this is the album they should have made between "Room On Fire" and "First Impressions...", so if this is any indication, should be great. With only 10 tracks, not much room for error though...who knows, maybe they end up at the PJ Fest?!?!?! :D

Love the new single. Crazy good! New album cover is sweet.

One disappointment... Me being a mongoloid. For the last two weeks i thought the CD was titled "Angels"... I am upset to see today that ive actually been reading it incorrectly this whole time and realized its actually "Angles". Big time bummer, no just for the name of the CD but for me an my reading ability.
