On my fourth listen, the band is definitely tight and Butch Vig brought the best out of them. I know I said it's their best since "The Colour and the Shape", but I think this could be their best album they've done.Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford

Try it again, some people apparently had problems viewing it, then it started working - I just watched it on the cbs website and I'm in England........

I love the Foos and everything they're doing with this new album, but I'm a little disappointed in the middle songs. I think the album starts great (thru White Limo) and ends great (from Miss the MIsery). The 4 songs in the middle there I found, I don't know, a little bit off or something. Just 2 listens though.
Novaselic was sick on I S/'ve Known (I've got the song right, right?).
I don't think it's better than One by One. Obviously almost everyone here disagrees with me. That's cool.Spectrum 10/27/09; New Orleans JazzFest 5/1/10; Made in America 9/2/12; Phila, PA 10/21/13; Phila, PA 10/22/13; Baltimore Arena 10/27/13; Phila, PA 4/28/16; Phila, PA 4/29/16; Fenway Park 8/7/16; Fenway Park 9/2/18; Asbury Park 9/18/21; Camden 9/14/22; Las Vegas 5/16/24; Las Vegas 5/18/24; Phila, PA 9/7/24; Phila, PA 9/9/24; Baltimore Arena 9/12/24; Pittsburgh 5/16/25; Pittsburgh 5/18/25

Lol, even the band acknowledge One By One wasn't their strongest moment, I'm sure Dave said recently he thinks that it only has three good songs on it! But of course to each their own!
I can see your point to an extent on Back And Forth and A Matter Of Time, to me they're good, but not quite up there with some of the other songs. But Arlandria and These Days sound like vintage Foos to me, great classic melodies.0 -
Am I the only one that was waiting for the names of the band and probably a sentence under Dave last night?Shows: 6.27.08 Hartford, CT/5.15.10 Hartford, CT/6.18.2011 Hartford, CT (EV Solo)/10.19.13 Brooklyn/10.25.13 Hartford

I think it was in this thread that someone mentioned there was a little Queens of the Stone Age vibe in this album. I only really get that from White Limo. It's very Nick Oliveri-esque, and I love it.Using up my Ovaltine... like Ovaltine.0

My understanding is that they recorded a dreadful album that took forever, went off to Coachella, and came back and rerecorded it in a week with new life. And it sounded great. Quintessential Foo Fighters. I'd call One by One their Yield.Spectrum 10/27/09; New Orleans JazzFest 5/1/10; Made in America 9/2/12; Phila, PA 10/21/13; Phila, PA 10/22/13; Baltimore Arena 10/27/13; Phila, PA 4/28/16; Phila, PA 4/29/16; Fenway Park 8/7/16; Fenway Park 9/2/18; Asbury Park 9/18/21; Camden 9/14/22; Las Vegas 5/16/24; Las Vegas 5/18/24; Phila, PA 9/7/24; Phila, PA 9/9/24; Baltimore Arena 9/12/24; Pittsburgh 5/16/25; Pittsburgh 5/18/25

I'm pretty sure they said they came back and cobbled something together after Coachella. They've definitely spoken recently about it not being their finest moment.
Quintessential Foos to me requires far more memorable melodies, and I wouldn't say it's even approaching the consistency of Yield. I like bits of it, but overall I think it's patchy. Not that this means anything, I know there are plenty of people out there who probably hold Riot Act up as the best PJ album, it's all personal taste.0 -

I've seen and read so many interviews with the band over the past few weeks that I couldn't really remember, but now you come to mention it I do recall it being brought up in the documentary.0 -

Who knows. I thought they said they rerecorded the whole thing in a week.
