Didn't he say at one of the shows this summer that he was getting shots for his voice? Which can only mean less touring and shorter tours in the future :(
So hopefully quitting smoking will help his throat, too!

Ohmygawd, that sounds painful!

I think that the lack of fasting/cleansing is why America has so much disease and cancer. Many other countries cleanse twice a year as a prevenative maintenance for the body.
Just thought this could be helpful for those who wish to know...
I love how we have a four-page thread going about Ed's current diet! I've wanted to do this for a while, but I'd probably have to take some vacation days... haha. I don't know if I could work on lemonade and salt alone.
And if they had another girl baby, that's cute! I like the idea of Ed having two little girls.
So I'm a bit confused?? There's been quite a few posts from people excited that Ed has "quit smoking"........I haven't been able to read the full articla - only what was in the original post here, where he says nothing about QUITTING smoking.....only that as part of the cleanse, he isn't smoking.
To those of you that have read the full article....does he say that he is quitting?? or are people just assuming that because he's stopped smoking during the cleanse that he's quit?

I find it hard to believe that someone would quit smoking for, say, a month, for a cleanse and then intend to go back to it.... I mean once you've gone a month, doesn't it get easier from there?
On a side note, my grandfather quit cold turkey after being a heavy smoker for 40-odd years. My twin brother and I were his first grandchildren, and the day we were born, my mother said to him (her father) that he wouldn't be allowed to come near her babies with a cigarette... and so he quit right then and there. I am so proud of him every time I think of that

You're not a smoker are you
I know people who 'pause' smoking all the time, for various reasons. Heck I stopped for all of my pregnancies (11 months x 3) - but I've never 'quit'.
I remember when my Irridologist put me on a cleanse about 3+ years ago and I was supposed to stop smoking during the cleanse.......I ended up being allowed to smoke as she knew that if I had to give up everything she wanted me to for it, there was no way in hell I would have lasted.
I admire Ed for stopping smoking for this cleanse - it's NOT easy.
I have read that it takes 3 to 5 days for the nicotine to leave the system. After that it's getting over the ritual of actually smoking.
I quit 12 years ago, the first week was the hardest. For me it was something I had to work at, reminding myself that I don't smoke. I don't even miss it. In fact it's weird to think that not only did I smoke but a chain smoker for several years as well.

I quit 6 years ago, and it is weird to even think that I used to smoke...
My husband's reason was more materialistic rather than for his health. This was back in 1999 and it was before we got married. One day, he came home and said, the cigarettes were so damn expensive now and that he was going to quit. He never smoked after that day.
This brings up an excellent point. I would love to see heavy smokers actually calculate exactly how much money they'd save per week/month/year. Tell me most wouldn't at least consider quitting after that!
I have a friend who fasts on a regular basis, just having liquids and such, not exactly like this master cleanse thing, but close. I think I could never do it, just seems too extreme to me.
I do hope he quits smoking, it just sucks on so many levels.
"While our bodies are extremely efficient and store most substances “for a rainy day”, there are many unnatural and unfortunate toxins in our environment that should not be stored, and the only way to release many of them is through fasting. The enzymes in our blood are normally preoccupied with digestion, however after we go for 24 hours without food digestion ceases and detoxification begins. Those same enzymes (never wanting to take a break) move from the gut into the bloodstream where they immediately begin purifying the body, neutralizing toxins, dissolving cysts, destroying cancer cells and releasing stored toxins from cells where they are eliminated from the body
During a fast, the level of toxins in the bloodstream can increase by as much as 1000%, meaning uncomfortable symptoms such as headaches may occur. In general, during a fast, the worse you feel the more it is working, because these unnatural substances take their toll one way or another, whether via a slow time-release or a quick purge. Subsequent fasts will feature less uncomfortable symptoms as our bodies have less accumulated toxins.
Types of Fasts
1) Total fast – A total fast means not consuming any food or water. While it may be that when we become severely dehydrated our cells are able to squeeze out toxins that would otherwise remain in the water (and thus in the cells), and while plants often bounce back stronger after they are dehydrated, pure fasting is generally not recommended as water is essential to eliminate toxins.
2) Water fast – A water fast means consuming only water. While safer than total fasting, there are some beneficial substances that are alright to consume during a fast so this fast is also not recommended, especially for beginners.
3) Juice fast - A juice fast means consuming only liquids like freshly squeezed juice, with no solid foods. You must also refrain from consuming any caffeine, nicotine, alcohol or prescription drugs. This is the most common type of fasting and the one we will explore in this article."

I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.
i found his "armpit" response a bit interesting. i've seen a lot of badass progressive women at his shows with hairy armpits. given his earlier feminist politics, here's hoping he's still on board with the project.
(disclaimer: i know they were talking about *licking* hairy armpits.)
But I would love for Ed to stop smoking! Got to save that voice!
About your article you posted; You are supposed to feel bad when you do it. The sudden acne, white film on the tongue, odor on body and breath, etc., etc., that that is the toxins that are coming out of the body, that would otherwise stay in the body and could cause sickness, disease, cancer, depression, fatigue. The person that wrote before you explained the chemical process well. It does work. The Western culture should do more of this prevenative medicine like other parts of the world does. There would be a lot less cancer and disease in America. Here in America, we like to put a bandaid on sickness instead of get to the root of the problem because (Like all things) of the money companys will make. AMerica needs more education about methods that have been used since the beginning of man such as fasting.
A cleanse is not only good for the body but for the spirit. It clears all of the toxins out so the all the senses are once again cleared.
I have done them and am a whitness that everything feels better when i am done. My skin glows, the bloating leaves and I have a ton more energy. I feel better. My body is thankful for it.
