Word. I love me some Wierd Al. He puts on a great show.
So true and he's so sweet too. My daughter wanted to meet him after one of his shows
so we waited by the bus for a couple hours. I love his humor, very creative

my chemical romance - first band that i ever got obsessed with - baring in mind that i'm only 15 please i've also seen Lady Gaga live.... she was very - dare i say it - good
I said MCR just because it isn't cool for someone my age to like them...more for your age group. But who care, they are good. The Black Parade is a friggin masterpiece
haha it's fine, i don't really mind. I liked their first two albums more than The Black Parade. but I loved the theatrics of it, the dramatic music.
Nirvana. I am approaching 30 no longer the teen/early 20's fan that this band is apparently for. No band speaks to me and has meaning to me like they do. My therapy my release.

I'm with you on that first album, Roger. I have no idea what she did after that-- other than wrote a supposedly bad poetry book and married a rodeo clown or something.
Weirdest show ever: I went to see Peter Murphy at a club that no longer exists in Orlando (The Edge, Pearl Jam actually played there back inna day), and Jewel opened up. Here's all these goth kids, waiting to see one of their idols, and then there's some little girl yodeling on stage in front of them.
I must admit, though, Peter Murphy's performance was pretty ho-hum after Jewel's.
Ok, I'll admit, I own, by choice, several Tori Amos CDs! Buttttt... in my defence I gotta say it was her cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit that got me into her.
I love Tori Amos! She dedicated "Danny Boy" to me during an encore at Tampa Theatre in the early nineties. (I met her before the show, and she gave me a big ole genuine hug when she said goodbye; I'm not really a hugger, especially when it's a complete stranger, but I let that one slide.)
A few have been mentioned here already: Fleetwood Mac, Genesis/Phil Collins/(Early) Maroon 5/some Coldplay/some U2
One that stands out for me is The Lightning Seeds. Probably most well known in the UK for the Euro/World Cup song Three Lions. My parents owned a 'best of' album and played it in the car alot when I was about 5 probably, and it stuck in the brain. Not sure whether its a nostalgia thing or whether it's a general like of anything melodic but 15 years on I still quite like their stuff (although not listened to much of their back catalogue other than this!). An example:
Kate Bush, I just adore her. I think she's so strange yet her songs just seem to make sense. Love 'The Man with the Child in His Eyes'. Always makes me emotional.

She's an incredible song writer. Uninvited has some amazing lyrics, I remember seeing an acoustic recording of this out in the desert as she visited a Native American family. As they started to play the bongos, it starts to rain and there's lightning and thunder, made for a really cool performance. http://youtu.be/xlxdxpEJLR0

i don't really feel guilty about liking any of these, but i suppose they are the ones that get ragged on the most in terms of musicians that i enjoy listening to.
however, i must admit, out of this list, the only things i've ever purchased from these artists were 'the black parade' and colplays first three albums.
I feel pretty passionately that there are no guilty pleasures. As I was talking in that Ipod or pop thread a few weeks back, since napster, most people's ipods and playlists consist of a wide variety of music from multiple genres. the majority of people are most definitely not stuffing their ipods with 60 gigs worth of one genre.
Pop music is just as cool as any music discussed on this board. It takes as much skill to create a Since U Been Gone, as it does a "hipper" song.
And pop appreciation is alot more critically accepted these days.

I love me some early Madonna (like dress you up days), finally the Pet Shop boys. Saw them at a fundraiser and they were amazing.
Gotta say Lindsay Buckingham is the most underrated guitar player imho...
Grew up listening to The Eagles, my dad loves them, fond memories of driving down for our summer holidays listening to some Eagles tunes....
Think that's why I akso like Don Henleys Boys of Summer
