    Just perfect.

Have you ever heard Dylan's version? (from The Freewheelin Bob Dylan)

No cover can ever come anywhere close to this.

"better" is because it's different and who covers it does it justice

it all really comes down to personal preferences, imo

Common People. William Shatners cover (with Ben Folds & Joe Jackson) is great. Far outshines the Pulp version.

"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix (Probably the most famous/greatest cover ever)
Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Warren Zevon
Knockin' on Heavens Door - GNR is probably one of my least favorite covers ever
    Crazy Mary - Pearl Jam
Love in Vain - The Rolling Stones
Just My Imagination - The Rolling Stones
Where Did You Sleep Last Night? - Nirvana
I Heard It Through the Grapevine - CCR

It may be blasphemy, and Ed would probably ask me to turn in my Ten Club membership, but I think Pearl Jam does Love Reign O'er Me better than the Who.
    32 shows and counting...

when i saw this thread first thing i thought of was this song but by the waterboys. i think this version beats them all by miles. this might be one of my all time favorite covers, by any artist.

    Hurt by Cash.
Little Wing by Derek & The Dominoes.
  • I could have sworn that this exact topic was discussed recently, but this was the only one I could find. I'm only pointing it out in case you wanted to check it out for additional discussion.

I think these covers are much better, although I do love the originals:

Ryan Adams - Down In A Hole (Alice In Chains)
MMJ - Rocket Man (Elton John) the Jim James solo version is beyond awesome
Johnny Cash - Rusty Cage (Soundgarden)
Johnny Cash - Wichita Lineman (Glen Campbell)
The Afghan Wigs - Creep (TLC)
Smashing Pumpkins - Landslide (Fleetwood Mac)
Zwan - Number of the Beast (Iron Maiden)
Camper Van Beethoven - Pictures of Matchstick Men (Status Quo)
Neil Young - Day In The Life (The Beatles)
Black Crowes - Hard To Handle (Otis Redding)

One of my all time favourites is Ryan Adams' version of "Time (The Revelator)" by Gillian Welch, a great Crazy Horse-style cover of an already great song.

    Ryan Adams - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96DJPZhNjOw
    Gillian Welch - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4LdjEObjGo

    (Jeff Tweedy, Sydney 2007)

“Put yer good money on the sunrise”

++++++++++++1 Love that song Rico, it always makes me hell emotional. I do really like the bloke from The Tea Party's version and Nine Inch Nails version too. But there's something about Johnny's old ragged voice that makes it come alive, like you can hear the pain in his voice. NIce choice! :)
