  • Audioslave was great, I have to agree. Soundgarden is awesome also. They should just do a tour together but I doubt Cornell's voice could handle 2 sets per night.

    No question....Soundgarden is the choice.

Audioslave's first album is pretty good. The 2nd one started gettin pretty generic. The last one was awful.

Soundgarden is samey?? That right there tells me you haven't listened to much of their music if you think it's more in line with a certain sound than AS.

I've probably listened to more Audioslave in my life, but can't say I've got the same fulfillment I've gotten as when listening to SG. Just so much more depth to them.

Saw Audioslave here in Australia when they toured a few years back, it was a quality show!!! They opened with GAsoline played just about every song from their first album (their only one at that stage) they threw in some soundgarden RATM and Cornell solo! Top top show!!

However their subsequent albums weren't half as good as the first! If they had left it at one album u'd be left thinking what
might have been!? Disappointing second and third efforts.

Soundgarden still preferred! Badmotorfinger is still nearly top ten for me!

On paper Audioslave had everything, they should have been awesome. Cornell's vocals & writing skills, the muscianship of Morello, Commerford and Wilk. How could it go wrong?

In truth, they were poor. 1st album was good but once was the dust clears you realise that its not as good as you first thought. Gasoline, Cochise & Shadow Of the Sun are great, not fussed about the rest.

As for the other albums, I'm not gonna waste my breath........

Considering the talent of these guys, they wrote some pretty poor stuff. And Cornell trying to sing 'Killing In The Name' live, I still have nightmares about that!!!!

I also like Audioslave more than Soundgarden.

Soundgarden is great and I really like many songs. But something about Audioslave just clicked with me. Morello is such a talented guitarist and Cornells vocals are unmatched. I wish they didn't break up but oh well.

I love Soundgarden and Audioslave both in different ways. I do miss Audioslave. I think "Out Of Exile" was one of the best records of the 00's.
"All I Ever Knew" available now in print and digital formats at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks.

on paper these guys should have ruled the world of rock...never happened. I guess they don't record on paper, do they?

  • I think they're both awesome bands, since I've already seen audioslave I'd prolly like to see a soundgarden show more just based on the fact that I've never seen them live, but I'd have to say I like audioslave better, I can't believe people shit on their last 2 albums, I think they're very solid..

    LOOLOL

I'm the biggest SG and AS fan your gonan get but SG are way better than audioslave.

You they are 'unique'? haha you not hear Rage Against The Machine, pretty much the exact guitar tone and kinda riff playing, not mention solos etc. The only real unique songs are the one Cornell wrote like I Am The Highway etc which then circle back to SG and his solo stuff.

I dug Out of Exile at first, but it got old fast.

It would be nice to have both...but that's a lot of touring conflicts, especially now that RATM and Soundgarden are back together.

I am someone who has never been a big Soundgarden fan. I like probably 5-10 songs, all singles. I have tried listening to their albums and just cannot get into them. As for Audioslave, I loved the first album, every song. Really liked about half of the second album, and didn't listen much to the third. I think they had something special and magic when they first came together, but I am not sure it was able to sustain as they went on.

I completely agree Audioslave is my favorite modern day band. I was never a fan of Soundgarden or RATM before Audioslave. Audioslave got me in to their other bands.

I think we are in the minority and that is why they Chris left because most of the fans wanted the seperate parts of the group rather than the whole.

I saw them live three times and I would always stand on Morello's side of the stage he is an amazing entertainer.

I really really liked Audioslave's first album. I remember when it the demos were leaked on the internet and they were still called "Civilian". I really dug that album from the first moment I heard those demos. I was also fortunate enough to see them on that tour, at the lollapalooza in Seattle for 03 I think it was.

but the albums that came after I didn't dig quite as much.

Maybe cornell can rotate. A soundgarden tour here, and audioslave tour there. I'm not sure about the solo tours though. I've seen two of those. One in the early 00's and it wasn't all that good. Again about 3 years ago, but he played songs from all his bands, and it was a helluva show.

All that being said, the Soundgarden show I saw in Vancouver in '96 goes hands down as one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

I guess I'd want them both.
