Greatest TV show ever-Nirvana Unplugged

  • I would go with:
    1. Nirvana
    2. AIC
    3. Pearl Jam (Sorry)

    this is correct

Nirvana - its stance in pop culture as an iconic performance as the funeral of grunge makes it #1

Aic - solid intimate show that catered well to the acoustic environment and showcased staley's vocals and revealed the sensitive dyanimc in his lyrics.

PJ- It was a Pearl Jam show without the amps, they didn't really use the acoustic vibe to their advantage for this performance (they saved it for 2003) and their catalogue was limited.

Nirvana Unplugged lives up to and deserves the hype. Even if the tragedy of the end of Kurt's life didnt happen, it would still be an iconic performance. The outside factors though make the Unplugged performance one of the great nights in rock history. Every single track is mastery. "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" gives me the chills.

As far as a TV show, I have never had the urge to watch it. Listen to it, yes. Many times.

Pearl Jam's MTV Unplugged is an amazing amazing concert....

However, Nirvana's MTV Unplugged is a piece of legendary music history. They way they arranged their songs and used new instruments to completely transform their sound was incredible. I'm not a big Nirvana supporter at all but even if you hate them, you have to appreciate the Nirvana Unplugged show as one of the greatest music television episodes of all time.

I really liked it and I think that's my fav Nirvana album but mind you, most of the songs aren't theirs and Leadbelly kicks arse when sings "Where did you sleep last night" compared to Kurt. There's just no comparison!

  • I can't argue with the relevance of Nirvana Unplugged when it comes to the bigger picture of music.... But they were never the best at what they did then... or even looking back now... I get why they are always revered as pioneers even though they weren't the first "grunge" band but the first to really to force it down your throat... That said... Musically... The Alice in Chains unplugged was light years better than what Nirvana did... I mean it isn't even close... It might not be as "relevant" but it damn sure kicked serious ass...

Nirvana Unplugged was the death of grunge
    AIC was the funeral

PJ to me never really did the unplugged thing the best. It didn't really fit their style then, and even now it's not really their strength.

I don't know about PJ not nailing their show. All I know is that their show grabbed me by the cajones big time and by the time I saw Nirvana and Alice I wasn't as impressed but what do you expect on a PJ website.

    Greatest mtv unplugged shows:
    PJ
    Nirvana
    Eric clapton
Rod stewart (Had a great setlist, and nice covers)
    Neil Young

For the PJ vs Nirvana debate: I picked PJ's because that is the show that I first heard pearl jam and fell in love with their music. Every song was great. As a little kid about 10 or 11, those songs just had me in awe- Especially "Black" and "Alive" can never forget that we belong together tag. Then the surfing the the stool during porch. Just an incredible show. I'm embarressed to admit, that that show introduced me to rocking in the free world- they did a great job with it and still do.
Nirvana- really liked that they branched out, and tried something different. though 6-7 songs are covers, they were done really well. Again, covers are good for exposing people to other artists. I really would have liked them to have played more of their own material. Not necessarily "Smells like teen spirit", but some more bleach and incesticide tunes would have been cool. Still a great show though.

AIC was amazing and their songs worked really well acoustic, sound just as eerie as they do electric.

AIC unplugged is what got me into Alice.....nutshell from that is amazing, and in all honesty i prefer the unplugged version of sludge factory rather then the album.....the ahhhh ahhh ahhh vocals on the album are a little weird compared to the live performance.

Niravana Unplugged performance is something that will just never be matched.

As much as i love pearl jam, its not even debatable.

Niravana's Unplugged is Legendary History not because of his death but for the way everything was layed out, the candles, the songs, the intensity etc

it was like Kurt singing to himself at his own funeral.
