Who is the most disappointing live act you've seen?

  • Bob Dylan by a MILE. Worst live performance I've ever seen. And I'm not just talking about performances by world-renowned musicians. Talent shows, cover band competitions, my sister's dance recitals when I was a kid....they all put Bob to shame.

Agreed. I have seen him fucking rock and be incredible. And I have seen him fucking suck and be the biggest asshole and biggest disappointment.

Clapton in 2009 in London. It was the 5th time I'd seen him. Previously he'd had Doyle Bramhall as a support guitarist and for 2 of the shows Derek Trucks and some superb drummers. I think these guys kept Clapton on his toes. 2009 seemed lazy, the support musicians were ancient and looked like they were looking forward to their cocoa before bed. And the tickets were expensive.

Saw Clapton in 2010 with Steve Winwood and he was excellent. Seeing them again at the Royal Albert Hall, and also seeing Clapton on his own. He's touring with the same band that he and Winwood used, so should be good. I've heard loads of shows from when he had another guitarist in the band and he seemed quite often to hide behind them, rather than be pushed. On his own there is nowhere to hide. Luckily, the tickets for his own gig were much cheaper thanks to a friend.
I hope you enjoy it. Unfortunately we were so pissed off after the 09 show when I saw the Clapton/Winwood shows advertised I couldn't be bothered. I don't think he hid behind the other guitarists, when he was playing with Doyle they bounced off each other and it was awesome. He seemed as bored as we were in 09.

Kings of Leon at Red Rocks and it had nothing to do with the band, the crowd was by far the worst I've seen.

I don't think Dylan was/is disappointing simply because I don't go see him expecting him to sound like he does on record.

    The Shins.

I friggin love The Shins. but they pretty much came out, played music and left. No emotion, no crowd interaction, not chatting or anything. Really blah considering how much I love their music.

i've seen Beck twice. once on an acoustic tour for Sea Change & it was fantastic. then we saw him @ ACL Festival in 2008 while Promoting Modern Guilt (love the album) and he was terrible. it was flat-out boring. no energy...no excitement...nothing.

Oh really????? :o How disappointing!!! :( I really like Beck, never seen him live but wondered what he was like. Damn, it's so shit when you finally get to see someone you've liked for a long time then realise they're crap.I loved Smashing Pumpkins and finally got to see them and was bitterly disappointed by Billy's attitude more than anything. He just wanted to play a whole lot of crap and none of his original music, mind you it wasn't the original line-up.

The ones that immediately spring to mind are Incubus and Tool.

It seemed like Incubus wanted to turn every song into an extended drum solo (although their cover of Black Hole Sun was unexpected and quite cool). Tool were just boring as hell. I know there's a lot to be said for being note-perfect all night but honestly they could have just played the cds and nobody would have known any different.

No shit!!! Tool were crap?????? Your kidding me?? I love Tool but never seen them live, jeez that's disappointing to hear. They are coming here for our Big Day Out but I refused to see them because I hate the Big Day Out. Full of little idiots and old pathetic people who are into dance mostly. Sorry if anyone on here is going, you guys are exempt from my last comment. They should have come with Soundwave festival (Slayer, Iron Maiden, Rob Zombie, Primus and Queens of the Stone Age).

  • Twenty odd years ago I was doing a Dylan and going through a Christian phase, so I went to see the late Larry Norman at Wollongong Town Hall. He came on stage, struggled to sing the first two songs and then announced that his voice was gone and he wouldn't be able to sing any more. So he then proceeded to organise the crowd into prayer circles and that was about it, no hint of a refund or anything. Being caught up in the moment and "spaced out" on religion we didn't question it but looking back on it now it feels like we were really ripped off.

Just to rub salt into the wound apparently he played the following night in Sydney with no problems.

    He had nice hair though.
Now I'm livin' out here on the beach,
but those seagulls are still out of reach.

Well when he didn't come out on stage until midnight, then everyone had a long solo, that just seemed to drag. Plus the sound wasn't too good. Disappointing.

That's interesting. I like some of their songs, most of that White Pony album but yeah, I could imagine that they would not live up to expectations

First one that comes to mind has to be Kittie. Saw them years ago and they didn't even play their one hit song, "Brackish" - they even told the crowd that they weren't going to play it because they knew we all wanted to hear it.

korn..i went with her only couse she was hot...worst thing i ever saw

What year did you see them? I saw them in 2000 and thought they were great. Then again I was singing so loud that I was almost overpowering the PA system.
  • Radiohead on Hail To The Thief tour.

I was monumentally excited about seeing them again (after the amazing Kid A gig I went to) and was ready for them to blow me away again.

They sauntered onstage to a massive reception and then pretty much killed the atmosphere by opening with "The Gloaming". After that, they never really got the crowd back and Thom was in a pretty funny mood, wittering on about George Bush or something.

The HTTT tracks just didn't work live and I was really gutted afterwards as the show just fizzled out.
It's gonna be a glorious day...
