    yes.
Hmm. I'll try not to sound like a cold-hearted W.M.A., but unless you are disabled or providing hospice care to a relative, then you are either lazy or incredibly incompetent if you have not held a job down during a 2 year span.

    (i think i just sounded like a cold-hearted W.M.A. )

[Sounding like another cold-hearted W.M.A.] I will add to that if you are going 730 days without work, then you must not have a lot of personal pride either...

I get that if you lose a decently high paying job, you will be selective about finding another job... If I'm making good money and I lose that job, I'm not going to jump into a job making half that if I'm bringing in more in unemployment (I really don't know people make on unemployment). But, after a while, I think that my pride would get me out of the house and would take a couple of retail jobs or something lower paying in my field that could turn into something, or really anything...

And honestly, two years without some sort of work can't look good when applying for jobs, even in this economy.

Regarding being unemployed, I was without a job last year for 8 months before I got one, & I work in a dying field (publishing & printing). To those here who said that people with 2 years of being unemployed didn't try hard enough -- do you even know how difficult it is to find work in one's field right now (pending on one's field, of course)?
It's really easy to say such a thing when you haven't experienced being laid off this entire recession...

    You’ve seen the commercials.

Under the new Department of Education rules, the unemployed will be denied federal aid loans to restart their careers because they would fall into this new catch 22 gainful employment rule that requires the DOE to decide if the career you selected would allow you to pay back your loan ‘while ensuring you can earn a living’.

Those schools that train students for a variety of technical positions, including automotive technician, computer technician, hairstylist, medical assistant, truck driver, a/c repair mechanics, electricians, locksmiths, business management, IT, administrative assistants, etc., etc.

Programs whose graduates carried debt-to-earnings ratios above 30 percent of discretionary income and 12 percent of total income, and where fewer than 35 percent of former students were paying down principal on their loans, would be ineligible for aid.

If you look at the current level of college graduates, who are unemployed or who have jobs that are not in their degree field of study, they would/will fall under this rule if they remain unemployed or become unemployed. This rule would also eliminate more than ½ the kids coming out of public school system who rely on technical schools for training, just to qualify for a job.

This is all based on a political agenda to reduced the federal government. What type of employment is left for these people to obtain? and How?

for two million people to receive benefits for 99 weeks at 310 a wk it comes out to around 61,380,000,000. Seems like they can find that in the budget somewhere to cut, ....

If they really wanted to cut the federal budget, they'd go after these farm subsidies. I'm not talking about lunch programs.

I don't know what side of the fence you're on, but last I checked these tax cuts have been in play since 2001/2003.... When was the economy stimulated cause I missed it? And so did the company I was working for (cut 10,000+ jobs). Who suffers more, the wealthiest 2% or the folks making $50,000 or less? Who's benefiting from the current economy the 2% of the wealthiest american's or the 2 million still unemployed?

Tax cuts are good, but don't seem to be benefiting everyone....
