time to admit to yourselves that oil is more precious to your Government than you are.

I think everyone here knows that.

    What country are you from?

what people don't realize is that we are in an economic crisis

i think extending benefits, even with a crazy deficit is justified

if everyone knows it why don't they do something about it?

and i'm an Australian who has worked in the country long enough to hold a valid opinion. although i fail to see what relevance that has to the discussion.

what about the "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" people" i am sure they would be willing to take the store clerk job. if not then they are a hypocrite.

i think we need to make these representatives live on unemployment benefits instead of their normal salary. either that or don't pay them at all. see how they like it...it is not like they are working for us or anything...

I agree with you on the politicians salary, they should not get rich after entering politics.

I'm talking about the office guy that gets laid off, he could take a job stocking shelves at Target.

Some of us are. Shall we hold the politicians at gunpoint to get them to vote out favoritism to countries that supply us oil while oppressing others?

I believe the answer is already there, Ron Paul. Big media won't let that happen however and many Americans do not research a candidate before voting. It is sad that people are so oblivious.

I often post up comments about this on FB, I believe I gave you the link at one time. I figured you were not interested in my opinions since we never connected there. I think your idea of what I'm after politically would change had you read some of what I've said.

I asked about your country because I find that when I converse with someone that is not from the US it might give me a better understanding of that person's opinion if I knew a bit about them. It makes for a more thoughtful discussion, in my opinion. Don't be so defensive.

where is your evidence of this? that is a VERY broad generalization.

I'm sure it all ties back to illegal immigration.

i would start by fining corporations for shipping jobs overseas and giving them a favorable tax incentive to move jobs back over here.

I'm in complete agreement on this, we absolutely need to punish these corporations that are sending jobs overseas.

Foxconn, a Chinese computer, cell phone and electronics manufacturer, employs 800,000 people, while Silicon Valley unemployment remains higher than the national average. Foxconn, which has made headlines after a spate of worker suicides, has 250,000 employees making Apple (AAPL) iMacs, iPods and iPhones alone. For every Apple worker in the U.S., 10 people in China are manufacturing the company's products.

Wait a minute. Correct me if I am wrong GST but aren't you one of those that says the Chinese deserve jobs too? If not I apologize in advance.

apology accepted. i have been railing against corporations who move jobs overseas to profit at the expense of the american worker for ages now. and i have said we can not fix this economy when corporations move their operations overseas for tax loopholes and dirt cheep labor. i think using cheep labor in sweatshops is wrong for many reasons, but look at what it is doing to our country and the lack of jobs here. it is criminal to give these corporations tax breaks to move overseas.

i am all for human rights and jobs for everyone, but we really need to take some time and work on our own domestic problems instead of going out and nation building when there are no jobs here and the corporations are robbing this government and it's tax payers blind.

Ha!! Republicans actually blocked a bill last month that would have cut tax breaks to companies outsourcing, Obama was behind getting this bill passed. We give companies tax breaks if they outsource jobs, how fucked up is that!! Thank you GOP for killing the U.S. economy.

No, no, no. They aren't getting the tax breaks BECAUSE they outsource jobs. They get the tax breaks for other reasons and the bill was to remove those breaks if they did that.

In other words, sell out the future for the short term present?

That's the mindset that got us into this economic crisis to begin with.

Democrat senator Harry Reid said, "The bill we tried to pass today is based on simple common sense: to keep American jobs here in America... but Republicans continued their job-killing agenda today by protecting these tax breaks for CEOs who offshore American jobs."

The majority senator claimed that Republican policies have cost 8 million Americans their jobs. "We should stop forcing taxpayers in Nevada and across the nation to pay for giveaways that reward companies for sending American jobs overseas."

The majority Senator is using politicspeak. There is no way the sole reason for the tax break is because the company sent some jobs overseas.

for two million people to receive benefits for 99 weeks at 310 a wk it comes out to around 61,380,000,000. Seems like they can find that in the budget somewhere to cut, and that is all the GOP SHOULD want to be done...seems reasonable to me, but then again I am rather fiscally conservative, so that means I hate my fellow man and only care about myself

The short term heart felt answer is give people what they need to live, which happened for 99 WEEKS, the long term however is when we spend money we don't have it makes our dollar weak, it makes other countries more enticing to manufacturers who can get more for their weakened dollar. We cannot just print money and expect things to improve...
Gimmie had it right earlier, only allow tax breaks for companies that keep or create domestic jobs, and make companies pay a one time fee for each job they outsource to make it less attractive to do so.

So has it been verified that only those that have gone 730 days without finding a job are losing their benefits? :?:
