can somebody tell again how pj/ed got involved with their case?
I think that Ed became motivated after watching the Paradise Lost documentaries on HBO. I think the WM3 case resonates so well with him and other musicians because most of us have been marginalized at some point in our lives. The majority of us are just lucky that we don't live in the Bible Belt and don't get accused of a triple murder in the name of Satan. But think of how many times people are wrongly convicted, especially when they are poor and uneducated. It's scary.
That article was decent but lacked the facts. He forgot to mention that DNA from a hair follicle from Terry Hobbs, the stepfather, was found in a knot used to constrain one of the victims, and lets not forget that Terry Hobbs' friend, who was seen with Terry that day by multiple people, also had a hair follicle DNA match that was found on a tree stump at the crime scene. Witnesses saw Terry Hobbs and his friend with the boys right before they disappeared. No DNA from the WM3 was found, not a trace.
This whole case has been so surreal from start to finish. So happy for those guys, we all know they're innocent, soon the whole world will I believe, the lawmen of Memphis can run but they can't hide.

The thing that is amazing to me is that the state if AR knows that they did not do it. The state did not cave to pressure from supporters and celebrities. Also, as you mentioned, I think we all know who really did it. However, thanks to the nice little deal the state made to essentially cover their ass, the real killer will walk free. I'm ecstatic that the WM3 are free, but saddened that real justice simply eluded them and the three murdered boys. I'm also really sad for Mr. Moore, who still thinks the WM3 did it, I cannot imagine losing a child and now he thinks the killers are free. Although I think that most people see their innocence and knows the state would not have turned three killers loose (despite letting the real killer walk), I just can't see how some people still doubt their innocence. Their release on Friday is just proof, despite the legalities of the terms, that the WM3 are innocent.

this is a link to a petition to the Governor of Arkansas to fully exonerate Damien, Jason, and Jessie. And it's not just any old petition... this one has the full backing of the aunt and biological father of one of the murdered boys, Christopher Murray Byers. I've been in communication with Christopher's aunt Cindy, and they want the truth to be known.

Thanks so much for posting this! I just watched the whole thing. Lots of interesting information, right from the horses' mouths, so to speak. (And with the key players from BOTH sides on the panel, so either side could stand up against any facts they thought were being misrepresented.) :thumbup:
Here is some of what was said, for those of you who don't have time to watch it:
The Prosecuting Attorney said more than once that he thought they would get a new trial & be acquitted. He also said witnesses have changed their minds and have "credibility issues," and noted that even some of the victims' parents think the WM3 are innocent.
The moderator said there was nobody in the room who had been on the case longer than Mara Leveritt. (She is the author of the Daily Beast article referenced in the previous post. She also wrote a 419-page book on the case, Devil's Knot, where she cited 430 references.)
The Arkansas Supreme Court's opinion affirming Jessie's conviction was noted a couple of times. They said they couldn't believe Jessie had been convicted with no evidence except his confession, and that they don't condone the tactics used to get the confession.
Both Jessie and Jason were offered reduced sentences to testify against Damien but they refused to take the deal because he didn't do it.
Jessie's first lawyer originally thought he was guilty because of the confession, but changed his mind once he did his research.
They said the big donors have said they're still going to continue the fight. Also, there is talk about setting up funds to help the WM3 get on their feet.
The Prosecuting Attorney said he believes they're guilty based on the fact that they were convicted and their convictions were upheld, but that he hasn't actually read the police file.
One of the panelists noted to the Prosecuting Attorney that there is absolutely no physical evidence linking any of these three to the crime and he didn't dispute that.
The Prosecuting Attorney said the state crime lab will run the DNA through their system "to assist in further investigation" and that he would still accept evidence from the defense.
It was noted that the state had the ability to do DNA testing at the time of the crime and the Prosecuting Attorney agreed.
Jason and Jessie's lawyers (and maybe Damien's, but they didn't comment about his) have been working for free for at least 8 years.
When asked whether the guys can make money from their story, one of the lawyers said the law prohibiting this applies to the crime itself, but not the trial, prison life, etc - so, in theory, they should be able to.
Apparently the plea itself precludes them from suing the state (someone said they could sue for $54 million), but they were additionally made to sign liability waivers as part of the terms of their release.
There were 5 people on the panel representing the "not guilty" side and just one - the prosecutor - representing the "guilty" side. The moderator said they tried to get more people from the "guilty" side but weren't able to.

Any news on the actual hunt for the killers of the three boys?
Is Damien Echol's researching this case to try and find who did it, or is he simply trying to put his life back together and make up for all the time lost in prison (which would be perfectly understandable in my opinion)?

My dad rents the longest limo in the world at the time to go to Memphis from Chicago to pitch a huge celebration of life concert for Elvis to Dick Clark and the Elvis estate members.It was August 1987. Best part was riding in the rumble seat in back people screaming Lisa Marie at me and waving as we cruised the boulevard in front of Graceland.... .
