I think most bat first ... but generally depends on the wicket and how they think it may change over 5 days of play.

weather on the first morning as well...if you have some good cloud cover ..they ball will swing more..so you have a better chance of getting early wickets....but weather looks good...so i would bat..

I will also add, that I while I believe bowlers should be selected for their bowling, obviously if they can bat that is a bonus. Aussies tail now looks a bit better. Last test they were woeful, lets hope they can be a bit of a cog.

the only thing more woeful than tail, was our top order. and it still is. why the fuck was hughes selected? he's averaged 16 this yr for nsw in the shield. token nsw selection and an absolute farce. ponting, he can fuck off with north. clarke? wtf? wheres that 80 form from adelaide? that was an absolutely discgraceful nervous shit shot that he fished at. the wicket was seaming early, but we're still atrocious.

Combination....

Temlett was good, Anderson, Swann and Finn were all decent, not great though.

Aussies played some loose shots. Like Clarke didnt move his feet, and just dangled the bat at the ball and got caught behind. That was a disgrace

Hughes trying to play across the line when he should have played straight got bowled

Ponting was looking ok, then Collingwood pulled off a ripper....

England are too good. I am still shattered though...

Thank goodness for Huss, haddin Johnson and Siddle. A bit of respectability.

well this is the 3rd ground we have played in...and the wicket changes over the period of a test..(5days of footmarks etc)

By the wicket they are talking about the centre of the ground/pitch where the bowling/batting occurs.

So each wicket plays differently and will change during a match as it breaks up from the players running on it and the ball being bowled on it.

Yep, some are good for fast bowling (like the WACA), some are good for spinners (ike SCG and India) some are good for batting (Adelaide). All depends on the coverage of grass an moisture in the pitch.
