My friend used to live there, he now lives in San Rafael. When I visited him I saw Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard Street, Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown and a SF Giants game (beautiful ballpark). Wanted to see Alcatraz but it was booked.

I'll send you a PM with more recommendations. SF can be quite cliquish, but I will send you recommendations with places to go where people tend to be more friendly. Are you more of a dive bar/casual bar or do you like more upscale?

thanks, more of a casual bar type guy, but if you know places that are upscale that are fun that would be great. sorry for all the favors :)

7 years since we were there but SF is a great place. As probably recommended by others.

Alcatraz. Do the night tour for a great view of the skyline at night
Hire a bike and cycle over the Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito for lunch and get the ferry back.
Fisherman's Wharf to see and smell the seals. Watch the buskers
    Walk around and explore.
