    yeah +1

    maybe to rephrase the question for the OP, would eddie be a star if he had been a solo artist his entire career???
    {if (work != 0) {
    work = work + 1;
    sleep = sleep - work * 10;}
    else if (work >= 0) {
    reality.equals(false);
    work = work +1;
    }system("pause");
    return 0;}

    yes he would. springsteen did the solo thing a few times in between time off with the e-street band. i'd so love to see ed go solo

    I think he could do well for himself if he were to continue with some solo work in the future.
    I would MUCH rather see Pearl Jam Eddie, but I do believe he could do well for himself.
    Hard Sun was a huge success! I hear it on the radio more than I do Pearl Jam.

    Ed is already a star and always will be...

    He's actually officially gone solo...we will probably see more of it in the coming years , but he's never gonna leave PJ

    No doubts. He can do anything he wants. But he doesnt seem someone who like to play alone all the time, but one who love share the music , the stage , the big ones concerts, the good vibrations that cames from this moments. It means long life to PJ, no?

    I don't think that he would... but if he was to put out a few more solo records NOW, I'm sure that he'd make a name for being able to do both, solo & band. This popularity, however, would primarily come because of the years with Pearl Jam.

    I think it would be on par with Chris Cornell..much bigger success with Soundgarden and Audioslave than his solo material. i really liked Euphoria Morning, but the last one wasn't anything to take to a deserted island. into the wild was great, but i don't think the eukelele songs like satellite, you're true, brokenhearted would sell many records or garner any airplay if released on a second sol disc. it depends what ed wants to release.

    I'll have to disagree. He's a magnificent musician - period. True, he has become so popular because of Pearl Jam, but I think he would have become popular regardless. Just look at what's happening with Into the Wild. In addition to maintaining his Pearl Jam fan base, he's also gaining new fans that wouldn't otherwise like him.

    Case in point: My mom doesn't like Pearl Jam. I know she's gotten tired of hearing me talk about them and Eddie, especially in the days leading up to the solo tour. She couldn't understand why I would fly out to California to see a concert. Of course, she doesn't even really like any contemporary music and I've rarely in my life heard her say she found some new artist she liked.

    That said, when I got home from the shows this week and was talking about them again and said the name Eddie Vedder (which I'm sure she had let go in one ear and out the other the whole time I've been talking about him), she started asking me whether or not he had a beard and long hair. I said yes, and she told me this story that while I was gone she was out shopping and was in a store with a tv that was playing music videos. She said this video came on and the musician was so talented and his voice was so beautiful and the song was so good that she became captivated and couldn't take her eyes off him. (She also mentioned how handsome he was, which is also unlike my mom.) So she asked the store employees who the guy was - and it was Eddie Vedder singing Guaranteed! She was like, "Is THAT they guy you just went to LA to see?! Wow, now I totally understand why you are such a big fan! If I had known he was that good I would have gone with you!"

    I know my mom is just one person, but I think this is indicative of his ability to draw in a whole new crowd based SOLELY on his solo music. :)

    I would have absolutely no problem with Ed following the Springsteen format of releasing band stuff and solo stuff and touring both. His solo tour was fantastic, i would just love to hear more original music from him in the future.

    Is he an incredible musician or song writer? I'm going with the song writer. I think Jeff, Stone and Mike are incredible musicians.

    Never said that he wasn't a magnificent musician. I personally think he's one of the best of all time, period. However, what would Eddie's style be back in the early 90's if he was to begin solo with no Pearl Jam? Would it be as it is now ("Into The Wild")? Or would it still go under the 'grunge' sound of that decade? It all depends on that.

    Of course I don't know what his solo style would have been like back then, but I don't believe it depends on that. I think that since he's such a great musician he would have had a successful solo career regardless of his style. Perhaps he would have a different set of fans, but he would still have fans no matter what the style.

    I think he has an enormous amount of talent so I think that he would be a star still as well as have a following. His lyrics are as good as ever, and sometimes even blow my mind that he can even put out more and more lyrics that make you think.

    But as for Eddie's real integrity that he shows time and time again, obvious when he talks using terms like "the band" to not elude to the fact this is Eddie's band. He is cool like that.

    why is it a dumb topic? It's interesting to hear people's take on the same singer/songwriter/musician. I think he could have been successful as a solo artist--maybe not HUGE but good.

    Point taken... but we'll agree to disagree. However, I'm close to positive that we both can agree on the fact that Pearl Jam would in fact, no matter what, be bigger than Eddie Vedder solo.

    Hmm... well that's a whole new and interesting question. You're probably right, but I'll have to give it some thought. There are just so many variables to consider - timing, whether bands are more popular than solo artists in general, how (much) he would promote himself as a solo musician - it's just hard to say. I think maybe this is where your question about style becomes relevant too. Although I think he'd have many fans as a solo musician in whatever style of music he decided to play, some styles do have more fans than others.

    Now, absolutely yes and he's already known as the primary leader of PJ.

    Past, before Pearl Jam. Hell NO, did Bad Radio make it big? Nope Eddie needed seasoned music veterans like Jeff and Stone to become a big rock star.

    Without Jeff and Stone, Ed would just be a surfer bum.
