I think what angers people about this video is not necessarily the killing of the puppies, I agree that this might of been a must as far as the family goes, but the way in which it was done and the pleasure the girl seemed to be taking from doing it. The only way I can think of to do it more cruel would be to set them on fire.

Completely agree (except for when I think about the killing of the puppies, if I dwell on it too much, I can ball my eyes out). I'm not a psychologist, but to me anyone who can enjoy harming an animal that much is a sociopath. It's just sickening.

A Bosnian girl became the target of international criticism and Internet harassment last week after a video showing her joyfully tossing newborn puppies into a river went viral. In an attempt to stem both online and offline harassment aimed at the juvenile, locals may have concocted a story about the puppies being rescued by an elderly neighbor.

Photographs published in the Bosnian newspaper Jutarnji List show Ruza Pavlovic holding an armful of five black and brown puppies, reports news website ninemsn. Pavlovic, an elderly woman who reportedly lives in the village of Curcic Lug near the girl's town of Bugojno, told the newspaper that she found five of the six puppies tossed in the river and has been keeping them in her garage. All are healthy and available for adoption — but as savvy netizens point out, the puppies in the original web video are black and white, not black and brown.

"The old lady is next door neighbor of the girl's family ... [my source said] they made a deal to make up that rescue story to 'save' the girl," freelance reporter Ljubica Vujadinovic told ninemsn.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source told Vujadinovic that the girl "can hardly bear to live with the reactions and everyone believes Pavlovic made this up only to try to help the girl and her family."

A video purporting to be an apology from the girl appeared on YouTube appeared last week, featuring a still frame from the original video with a misspelled message posted over it that ends with a frowny face emoticon and reads:

"My name is Katja Puschnik and I would like to appologize for my behavior. The puppies belong to my grandma and she told me to get rid off them because they were only 3 days and they were ill. They had parasites from their mother. I didn't knew exactly what to do so I thrown them in the river because it was a short death. I did not want to make them suffer. I am really sorry for this:("

As in the case of the Cat Bin Lady of Britain, seen on video dropping a friendly feline into a wheelie garbage bin, members of the anarchic forum site 4chan are credited with identifying the girl in the video, and following through with the community's infamous hectoring.

Accurate identification, or at least successful harassment, was evidenced via post by the owner of the YouTube account where the video appeared, found on "a Croatian gaming forum complaining about 4chan. (Based on a shoddy Google translation, it also sounds like he admits to having something to do with the video — especially in this comment, where he talks about a diseased dog.)," Gawker's Max Read reported.

Prior to the girl's identification by police, "Transformers" director Michael Bay offered $50,000 and U.S.-based animal rights group PETA said it would pay $2,000 for information leading to her arrest and conviction. As of this posting, a Facebook group called "Find the Girl Who Threw Puppies in River" has more than 57,000 members.

Bosnian police told the media that they plan to speak to the girl's parents about the incident, though it is unclear if this has occurred. Under a newly adopted animal cruelty law in Bosnia, those guilty of killing or torturing animals can be punished by fines ranging from the U.S. equivalent of $19 to $6,400 dollars.

Bullshit. How stupid do they think people are? Also, those puppies in the picture are about three times the size as the poor things thrown in the river. I say crucify the bitch. (sorry, but that's how she makes me feel)

Just out of curiosity, how is one supposed to dispose of a litter of sick puppies in Bosnia? :?

I haven't watched the video and I won't. Obviously the fact that her 'deed' was filmed and, from what I gather from the comments on this thread, that this person was also 'playing for the camera' makes it vile.

On the other hand, drowing was/is a very common way to get rid of unwanted litters. Usually though, it's immediately at birth and in a swift manner - not lively lil' puppies being chucked into a riber.
