First time have opened this thread in a long time

    @tempo_n_groove was right, above, 💯
Clark, and to a lesser extent, Reese, exploded those thing.
Good for the women involved, and those who are fans

I watched a number of games this year.  I like it.  Sorta like old NBA games before the impossible athleticism took over.
Both are fun versions of basketball to watch.

At least you must have a much easier time finding people to talk with about WNBA now.
It was already on its way up. It was just another jolt. It was more about the controversy between those 2 that caught interest. If was just her going for the record there probably wouldn't be much interest.
I think the numbers show tempos point to be true.  It may have increased year over year but nothing changed to make it skyrocket like that other than those rookies.
This is everyone at every sports media company vs. Sheryl Swoopes.  Just because some people don't want to give credit where it is due, doesn't change the facts.  Clark totally transformed the sport, and good for everyone who benefits.
She didn't transform it. Yes, new eyeballs are watching. But if it wasn't for what happened between those 2 in college during that game. We're not talking about them. And we "know" a good portion are MAGA types. And who haven't watched saying the game has gotten better since she came. When there were players like Becky Hammond, Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Sabrina Ionescu, and others before. She's a good player and probably be one of the all time greats. I mean the league has been around for 27 years.
"The league has been around for 27 years" and lost money for 26 of them until this year...

People like myself have been following Clarkes rise in college and now the WNBA.  MULTIPLE coaches have stated on what she has done for the sport.  Not Taurasi, Bird, A'ja, Stewart.  It was Clarke. I think Taurasi is the best female basketball player ever and it never motivated me to watch a game.

She is the Bird and Magic for the WNBA.  The rival that writers tried to make with her and Reece is a bit tried.  I don't think anyone w a brain thinks there is one.  The whole league seems to be against Clarke though, I will say that.

Taurasi and Bird both said themselves that Clarkes is going to have a hard go playing "with women rather than college girls" dismissing her play in college.  They are both eating crow now.

If you look around the league there are plenty of WNBA players not giving Clarke credit much like yourself yet every announcer and NBA pundit sees it.  Charles Barkleys interview on it was the best explanation I've heard.

They have gone down. I never said there wasn't hype. My point was it had to do with that controversy more than her play at first.

Clark is the ALL -TIME Scorer in College history. Plenty of people were already watching her at Iowa.

She did transform the game like Steph Curry did for the NBA.

She is more Magic and Bird, far more impactful than Curry on the league's revenue.
So I agree with you but emphasize it more to align with Tempos assessment.

The love he receives is the love that is saved
  • Geno UCONN said the same thing and is looking like an asshat
People that are discounting the impact she has had will not be able to sustain as more and more numbers come to light

I meant as far as her game(shooting & passing ability)

We'll be seeing more woman/girls shooting like her with the way Curry has with more men/boys shooting.

No one knew about her until that "You can't see me game". And by no one. I mean these new "fans". Not saying she isn't helping the game grow. And it's not even that I'm against her. It's those "fans". Who crapped on the W. And are now saying the game is better because of her. I do think she gets unfairly criticized. My point was she is not better or worse than the others I've mentioned. Also if Steph doesn't win championships he wouldn't have the same impact. Hopefully she doesn't win this year because I want my Liberty to win. Only original team to not win.

I'm still not a fan.  Like I mentioned before I do enjoy talking about it.  I have never seen a league mishandle someones superstardom more than the WNBA has.

They should have sent her to the Olympics just to grow the sport more but, they failed...

If she isn't better or worse than the ones you've mentioned then why is she breaking records as a Rookie?

I agree w Cutz where u will see better and better players in the future and it will be because they watched CC.

Or maybe because CC watched the other players I've mentioned. She didn't need to be on the Olympic roster. If anything it was probably good for her. She barely had a break with the college games then going straight to the WNBA. She will be on future rosters

  • So i watched the highlights. Switched back and forth for some of the games.  Collier couldn't miss. CC needs help.  NY looks good.  Bye Diana.  She will be on the Mt Rushmore of WNBA for a long time.

Lot of Caitlin fans saying racist stuff. Not blaming Caitlin. I remember reading somewhere when they reported she liked the Taylor vote tweet. Someone said something to the effect of remember who made you and not a good way to throw away your career.

I know this is a Liberty Thread, you want to start a new one for all of the WNBA?  Or just leave it here?

Liberty w a win the other day to go up 2-0.

Read a VERY interesting article in the Washington post by Ben Strauss.  "A reporter keeps asking about CC. Players want her banned."

Very good read on what is going on in the WNBA. So reporter Brennan, a white female, goes around asking other players about CC.  It makes it out that it is ALL she asks about.  The players are getting peeved and feel they are being baited.  They want her credentials pulled.

    I get it.

Another angle showing that the WNBA is squandering their opportunities to make the league bigger than what it is and say maybe they aren't ready for the attention it is receiving.

I think all the ladies need to take PR courses because these types of questions aren't going anywhere.  The league is growing, fan base is growing.  This kind of reminds me of when Tiger Woods was on top.  He would lose a tourney and still be front page news like "Tiger places third in TPC" and no mention of whom came in 1st.

Hopefully the world takes notice of the other players or is it that there is a person that other people can identify with in Clark?  Is it deeper than that or simpler?

I don't believe they want her banned.  The WNBA has been about inclusivity and such. Obviously they want to grow the game.

It an interesting read if you can get past the pay wall.  It touched on what you had brought up on the racist remarks.  One was "did you trip on your eyelashes" and "ban nails". Not sure how those are racist rather than bullying?

    I thought you meant Caitlin
    I did say "players".

It an interesting read if you can get past the pay wall.  It touched on what you had brought up on the racist remarks.  One was "did you trip on your eyelashes" and "ban nails". Not sure how those are racist rather than bullying?
That reporter should have credentials pulled
The NFL has many people who are credentialed in the modern press makeup who should also be banned.  Harassing the players is not the same thing as asking tough questions or building am unpopular story.
Asking about the most popular players is fine, but if that is your angle on everything and you are trying to stir shit up all of the time, that is not needed.
Hardly a shock given the clickbait trash that many media outlets have become.
Si.com is some of the worst bullshit going right now.
    Horrible.
