Alabama beat Georgia, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Missouri.  Notre Dame did not beat anyone at that level.  Had 2 chances and lost them both.

Notre Dame plays the independent game with their weird, easy, 1-sided "rivalries", avoids conference championship games, and it usually works in their favor.

Miami had the head to head.  I dont care if it was the first game of the season.  You cant schedule your 2 hard games right off the bat and then try to claim the result doesnt matter if it isnt favorable.

Notre Dame should be in the Big 10 for football.  Would be a challenging, normal schedule against mostly mid-west opponents.  Things would be apples to apples and it would not leave much up for debate.  They were a legit good team this season.   This time that schedule worked against them.

“mid-west opponents” like oregon, washington, UCLA, USC and rutgers. 🤪

but, yeah, not being in a conference hurts ND, except financially, and it’s of their own doing.
