i think you are baiting us into a tired argument presented by many climate skeptics which is the "earth has been around a long time and it goes through cycles" argument which has long been dismissed ...
this is initial primary concern regarding climate change:
By pumping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere - we are ARTIFICIALLY warming the planet. Temperature is the key driver of our climate in terms of weather patterns. We are therefore ARTIFICIALLY causing the planet to alter it's weather patterns. Immediate concerns include more extreme weather such as heat waves, floods, droughts, cold spells as the planet tries to compensate for the variance in temperatures not unlike your body does when it is cold or hot. The more long term effects include rising sea levels, less sea ice, extinction of animals, mass migration. A recent study has shown photoplankton to be down significant amounts in the worlds oceans - many marine life feed on photoplankton so without it the entire food chain is disrupted.
Anyways - this is all easily searched and read. If you so care.0 -

Preventing climate change is not about saving the planet. It's about saving us.. at least for a little while longer. 8-)
this i totally agree with. long after we cease to exist, the earth will be here, regenerating herself to sustain whatever lifeforms evolve. and this is what humans just dont get, be it through ignorance, arrogance or apathy... its not about saving the earth, its about saving ourselves. clearly not something were good at.hear my name

The entitilement that you guys think people should get is mind-blowing. Are people not capable of using thier brains and deciding what is a need for them to survive??? Since people are dying of skin cancer should we give away free sunblock. Since people are dying from alcohol should we ban that. Why do you think punishing people who are responsible is a good thing. You call me selfish, whatever... People are capable of making decisions, you do know that right??? I am not concerned about money, I am concerned about a society that thinks this line of thinking is acceptable.
Hey... I'm just asking questions to clarify the things you are stating.
And YES... I am wondering... what type of American would rather have fellow Americans die in the heat, than provide them with air conditioning that would save their lives? Because of money. Who puts money ahead of people's lives? I'm not calling you selfish... you are doing a good job painting yourself in that light.
And I have no idea where you get this whole 'entitlement' thing from me... when i'm just asking you to clarify your comments. My guess... this entitlement thing is buried deep within your psyche, where it is fueled with hatred and you cannot let go of it... so, you attach it to everyone that disagrees or questions you. If I'm wrong... tell me where it comes from.
...
And you say you are 'concerned' about people like me... who would rather have a person keep their life than worry about having my tax dollars 'wasted' on saving it? I would think you would be more concerned about a society that values money over the lives of its citizens... but, in your case... I guess I'm wrong.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Well first of the A/C thing was a joke, mocking the people who see everything as rights. If people need A/C to save their lifes in a disaster, then of course i would be all for helping them. , my statement was more of an everyday use, because it gets hot in the US. In fact I am probably the only person on this board whos family shared a house with some Hurricane Katrina victims. The entitlement thing comes from life perspectives, I live and travel through low low income areas, my wife works in inner city school. The effort by those communities to care about their education and the area where they live sickens me. Yet they live just as I do. I see the dish network satelites on the roofs, yet they have their kids window duct taped together. Its not hatred... Its disbelief. Its also disgusting to me that so many board members here think its ok to continual to give and give and so they aren't painted as selfish. Guess what... its the continual abuse of these systems and added luxuries that holds these poor people back. And your guys fix is just to give them what they want instead of showing them how to succeed by educational programs instead of cell phone programs.Cosmo wrote:Hey... So... If you are so concerned about the abuses of the systems... AND you have personally witnessed these abuses... WHAT have you done about it? Have you reported these abuses to the authorities? Or do you cower from your duties as a taxpayer to end these abuses?
Also... no one here has EVER advocated the abuse of programs to help the poor. If anything, we despise the people who abuse the system because it takes the resources from the ones who really need it.

Finally... your wife? And your name is Heidi? Not that there's anything wrong with it... I support your right to marry.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!

Oh... okay. That was just a curve ball I wasn't expecting. You kinda sounded more like a guy, but the name made me think, female. Glad that's settled.
...
NOW... what about those abuses you witness? Did you report them and were those people punished?

Also... just because a satellite dish is on the roof... don't mean it's getting any signals. Be it a house or a person.Allen Fieldhouse, home of the 2008 NCAA men's Basketball Champions! Go Jayhawks!
