Seriously folks, if you missed out on the CD and haven't downloaded Where It Began, I reccommend this as one really great album. It seems to open up more and more with each listen (about 10 times for me so far) and I can honestly say that this is the best album I've bought since King Animal. Wow guys, I didn't expect to be this blown away!!

that's the best way to listen. got a good set of cans dimi? you'll get a MUCH different feel for the dynamics on this record. it's not (and all music while I'm at it) meant to be pumped through phone speakers, or computer speakers, but rather through something that puts you right up close to what's going on. that's how alot of these songs were done, with headphones on and a nice drink nearby (bourbon guy here).
there's something about putting your entire body into a sound/idea/song that can be shared with others. i have vivid recollections of recording parts - how i felt, the weather outside, who was nearby, what i was thinking at the time. they are tiny moments of my life and matt's life that we spent doing this thing called music and when you listen, you are there, right there with us joining along in that sound/idea/song. they are recorded and are permanent FOREVER and a lasting document of us as people. there's a bit that's deeper here that i hope everyone gets to - not one of judgement, where you think 'oh, this sounds kinda like this and that' or 'shit yeah, matt can write a fuckin' monster song' - we like that, don't get me wrong, but rather just appreciating this connection, digging deeper like you are spending time with two other people that care a great deal about everything in life, not just being insanely head over heels in love with music and loving each other (yes, matt, i love ya man, you're a brother from another mother! hahaha). music is so cathartic and so healing and so powerful. i was talking with matt the other day and said that in the course of nearly 4 years writing together, we've both been through a lot of life and change (some good and some drop down ugly and painful). i really feel all these songs, not just the albums, but everything we did musically and as friends kept me buoyed during the good and bad. i know that you all can agree - and i just think it's amazing that you can take a CD like ' where it began' and listen, having a conversation together WITH US where we relate to one another as humans and all that goes with that. we're talking to each other, to you and the universe in a way that is much more than just words, it's a full body experience, the act of picking up an instrument or yelling into a microphone and challenging the listener and the universe to LISTEN to every note, every beat, every word, every nuance and be there right next to us in those hundreds of moments strung together to make music.
