Sorry for double posting from the Other Music forum (I thought probably more people will see it here on the Porch, that's why), but check this out:

Are you coming to Chicago to see the return of the mighty Soundgarden at Lollapalooza 2010? If so, you may be in luck. Soundgarden has announced that they are playing an intimate show at the legendary Vic Theatre in Chicago on Thursday, August 5th…and here's your chance to get a couple of tickets.

Click here: http://bit.ly/sgregister to sign up as a member of Soundgarden World. Members will be given the chance to purchase a pair of tickets to this once-in-a-lifetime show. If selected, you'll be sent an email with a link to purchase a pair of tickets. If you already have an account, login and update your profile.

Let's review:

Sign up or login here: http://bit.ly/sgregister (it's free and you'll be on the ground level of SG's official fan club). During the registration process you will be given the option to enter the drawing.
Be sure to check this box! Drawing registration will end the night of Thursday, July 29th at Midnight CDT (Chicago time).

Drawing winners will be randomly selected and emailed a unique ticket code the morning of Friday, July 30th. Winners will be able to purchase tickets that same day Friday, July 30th at 2 PM CDT.

There are a bunch of rules here so READ CAREFULLY!

Must be 18 to attend this show. This is not an all ages show. IDs will be checked at point of entry. There will be no hard tickets to this show. All tickets are paperless and will be distributed at will call the day of the show. All ticket sales are final. NO EXCHANGE, REFUND, OR TRANSFER of names for these tickets. The SoundgardenWorld member must show government issued photo identification to collect their paperless tickets. No exceptions.
Tickets are purchased in pairs (2) only. No single tickets sold. ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Sorry, but in order for us to insure that these tickets are all used by REAL FANS, we must make this rule. Please enter your chance only if you can realistically attend this show.

For example, if you live in Slovenia and really, really, really want to go, but there's no frickin' way you're flying all the way to Chicago for the show, don't make it harder for someone who can attend by putting in a request.

Please direct all ticket related questions to tickets@soundgardenworld.com

Good luck to you all!

    Awesome, wish I could go
...got a mind full of questions and a teacher in my soul...
  • Signed up for the lottery. Let's hope I hit it. I saw Jeff Tweedy at the Vic a few months ago, and Soundgarden would demolish that place. I'm still bitter I got screwed over in the Vic Pearl Jam sale. Boo.

You get your name drawn, you get the chance to purchase tickets. It's not like the PJ lottery. A bit like registering for RATM when they played London recently or Glastonbury, then fighting to get tickets!

you know theres gonna be hundreds of people that might be able to make it signing up

Threads like this one, that make people aware of the show, only dilute our chances. Seriously, if they didn't get the email themselves, they don't deserve to sign up!

How about we let this thread die?!?! I'm only posting this because it is already at the top of the board, so I am not perpetuating it much.

Kilgore... Well at least that's how I read it!

I would love to go but I live on the other side of the pond (with no real possibility of flying to Chicago for one gig!). Will have to wait for their European tour.

Eh... I kind of felt the same way as MG79478 at first... but I figure I'm gonna need as much of a miracle either way... I'm never gonna know how many people sign up... the odds seem the same no matter what (even if they get worse because of this thread or any other talk)

With the cutoff being thursday tho... hopefully alot of people don't hear about this by then ;)

I just hope there isn't a bunch of cock sucking scalpers like the PJ vic show

Even with that tho... if a scalper wants to he/she can put it up on ebay with the stipulation that the buyer must meet them at the show and stand in line with them... that extra ticket (assuming they come in pairs) is where the trouble happens... i saw people making lots o' money off the extra and not even going to the show

this lotto system seems a hell of alot better than the mad rush ticket sale we had here tho

Should your name be drawn, you will be given the opportunity to try and purchase TWO tickets. So find your buddy!!!!

Everyone did have a chance to sign up for the SG mailing list! In fact they had many months.

I realize that the impact of this thread is small. But it's just counter to commen sense to post stuff like this. Like when people post PJ ticket buying strategies. If someone really wants PJ tickets, let them put in the effort to figure it out on their own.

my thing MG is that I got a ticket to the PJ vic show because of posting here... doesn't hurt to have all your bases covered... the buddy system is a good thing

and that is the last I'll say on the subject... happy to let this thread disappear if possible... even happier if someone wants to take me up on the buddy system thing... someone honest preferably :)

    good luck all!

You could always request a ticket on here after the lottery is closed. Chances are slim that someone would see this post, enter becasue of it, win, and want to take you. For every casual fan that gets clued in to this opportunity, the chances of a bigger fan gets diminished.

If I win, I'll take you. But your chances aren't good, I've seen alot of PJ shows, all from 10C seats, and I've never won the lottery.

    End Thread here

Exactly! So don't be so ruffled up about this. I know some soundgarden fans (from day 1) that are not signed up to the soundgarden forum like I know huge PJ fans that aren't signed up for here. And what makes a 'bigger' fan? I bet there are a lot more of 'casual' SG fans than hardcore ones. And even then, I'm what you may call a 'bigger' fan, my daughter is what you would call a 'casual' fan but she would love to see them as much as I would. This thread here is really not going to make a difference to your chances of having your name possibly being picked out and after that possibly getting through online to buy tickets.

Spread the love, I say. Communicate to fellow fans.

No one ever mentioned forums. I know plenty of huge PJ fans that are 10C members, but not forums members. But the first thing I did when I heard about the Soundgarden reunion was sign up for their FREE mailing list, so I could be notified about stuff like this. I would say that makes a bigger fan.

All Soundgarden fans had equal opportunity to sign up for the mailing list if they wanted information like this. There is no need for further communication. All this extra communication is going to do is dilute the lottery pool with casual fans and scalpers. So I say "spread the love" to the fans who signed up for email alerts months ago.

Since chances are so slim that someone would win because of this post, why bother, and make it harder for others to win? This thread won't make a huge impact, but it won't help. It's really more the principal of the matter. The constant "spreading of the wealth" that defies all common sense. It's like waiting in line all night at the box office, only to be told that there is a now a lottery, and everyone who just showed up has the same chance that you do.

You know what, you think the way you do. But as already said, this thread doesn't matter and when it comes to the principle of the matter and the 'spreading of the wealth'.... check out what happens when you google Soundgarden Vic Theatre... These things are not secret, they are not for the few 'in the know'. Common knowledge. Those that read stuff like this and aren't interested, they don't sign up - no loss. Those that, for some reason, have a life and can't follow bands but are fans and love to see them, and notice such an announcement, they register to have a chance to see a band they like. I don't see a problem with this.
