Haha, I enjoy it. Always catch myself watching like 4 episodes in a row. It's pretty sweet. Some cool shit comes through there

If Corey was twice as smart he'd still be stupid.

I couldn't see selling something for $200 when two minutes earlier an appraiser told me it was worth $900.

The first time I watched it, I thought it was stupid, but now it's one of my favorite shows on TV... I'd like to spend some time looking around that store.

It's worth $900 if you find the right buyer at the right moment... and if you need to sell it, and can't find that person, then it's worth whatever you can get for it.
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

yes I love it, it is the west coast trash version of antique road show (pickers is the trailer trash version)

people here seem to forget the pawn shop is a business to make money. You can't buy something worth 600 and sell it for 600 and profit. Most places like this will give you 50% of value max, like a car dealer. If I buy I new car and drive it off the lot, and then put it in reverse and sell it the next moment I'll get maybe half. I just got 1500 for a car they sold for 4200

it is all about the cash on this show, and if you are going to a pawn shop you really need cash!

Pretty cool show. I was shocked the other day when I read this is one of the highest rated shows on cable...something like 6-7 million people watch an episode. Crazy.

I was just reading that Rick Dale, the guy that fixes the Coke machines, gas pumps and motorcycles is getting is own show now. I also read that the shop use to have about 40 customers a day, now they have over 1,000 and are expanding the shop by 60% due to the success of the show. I don't watch anything but sports on T.V. but that show has me hooked for some reason.

Hmm, I gather from the posts here that this is not a show about sexy chess-masters getting wild on a chess board.

    Disappointing.

but yeah, some people are stupid and do seem to get ripped off. hate the people that go in and don't know anything about what they are selling and say, i have no idea what this is worth, what will you give me for it. i'd be getting $ signs in my eyes with those customers.

    Watching it....right now... :lol::lol:

As to why on the History Channel??? It's almost a documentary on "stuff".....the items that affected our history, but are not worthy of an hour or a half-hour devoted to them.

This type of show is interesting if a person likes to look at old junk. And, as a curious person I DO often like to look at old junk. (So I watch this when I'm grading papers!)

I find it funny that the people who try to sell their stuff haven't watched the show enough to realize that they are not going to get offered more than about 50% of what the shop plans to sell it for. I mean, the audience knows it, why don't they?! ;)

Rick (the main guy) had been pitching the show to the History Channel for a few years. History Channel finally caved and gave him a show, now it's their highest rated show ever.

If you watch one of the older (2005ish) 'Las Vegas Secrets' shows that's on the Travel Channel, you'll see Rick with hair...kinda reminded me of Homer Simpson with hair...

My hubby is obsessed with this show. I wouldn't watch it by myself but when he watches it I get sucked in every time! The last time we were in Vegas we went to the shop - drove by around 3pm and the line outside was ridiculously long...must have been taping. We went back around 6 and the line was gone. It was cool to walk through, but none of the guys were there.

Anyone else find Rick's laugh disturbing??!

I find it so funny.... I wish I had something old and valuable - I would love to visit their shop if I'm in Vegas.

  • Love this show. I especially like it when someone brings in a super old guitar. There was a Gibson guitar that was originally worked on by Les Paul himself and was brought in by a nephew. Rick bought it for $80,000 and it was worth a lot more than that. Freaking crazy. Great show. I bet that Clark Co. Museum guy just shits himself with all the sweet stuff Rick brings for him to look at.

Very true. It is especially important to remember that this show takes place in Vegas. I am sure a lot of times when people come in with something to sell they need the money as soon as possible. So when you need to spend a few more hours at the casino waiting a week to get your item up on ebay or longer if you sell it at an auction house just isn't an option.

I have also read that Vegas is a pretty big retirement community. So in a lot of cases when elderly parents or grandparents die in vegas their families will come and clean out their house. I think this is where a lot of the items come from, and I imagine in many of them the people don't want the extra hassle of selling stuff to the highest bidder when also dealing with a death and all that stuff, so in those cases 30-40% of retail value in cash that day would probably sound pretty good.

when we went to Vegas last summer, we tried going by the shop a couple of times. no matter what time of day it was, the line stretched out the door & down at least 2 blocks.
