    I'm wide awake now, too, from a long nap also today from the time change and the fact that UConn won yesterday. Gives me a good reason to do all the school work I DIDN'T do during Spring Break.

    The legislature's Judiciary Committee is slated to take up several bills relating to marijuana use on Monday.

    The committee will hold a public hearing on whether to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana, something with advocates say will save the state's criminal justice system millions.

    Under the proposal, possession of less than one ounce of marijuana will not be treated as a criminal offense; rather it would be treated like a motor vehicle infraction, punishable by a fine instead of a criminal penalty.

    The committee will also consider a bill to legalize marijuana for medicinal purposes. A similar bill passed the legislature in 2007 but was vetoed by then-Gov. M. Jodi Rell.

    Current Gov. Dannel P. Malloy backs both decriminalization and medical marijuana; in fact, his office drafted the bills. A Quinnipiac University poll released this morning shows broad public support for both measures.

    The Judiciary Committee hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the Legislative Office Building.

    Its about time they did that. We've had that up here for at least a year. However, there are stipulations on that, twisted. Like if you get caught smoking while driving, it's still considered an OUI because you're in a moving vehicle. Also, possession of marijuana paraphernalia is still a criminal offense. It does change the rules considerably, but don't be fooled into thinking this is full-scale legalized legislation. I've known of some kids catch the bad end of that stick in the last year or so.

    its a step in the right direction. far from having dispensaries in town, but it may just happen in my lifetime.
    and the thought of (maybe, possibly, someday) having my insurance cover some of the cost :mrgreen:
