I have about 250 friends now....and possibly about 100 of them are PJ 'friends'.
I generally say no to people from school, ex-work mates etc adding me because I don't want any of them knowing what the fuck I'm doing....there's a reason why I am no longer in contact with them....but for people I don't really know like PJ friends etc who normally find me because 60 of their friends are friends with me, I don't give a shit what they know. I find it interesting looking at all their tour photos, plans etc etc too.
And i am just the opposite - I have no desire to "friend" most people here because, well, we're not really friends. We all use handles when referring to each other and have never met most.
I have just recently set up a FB account and really want to keep it to just those i really am actual friends with. Those who's real name I know and interact with mostly in person. There is maybe one exception to that rule, and she knows who she is.
I had a lot of Message Pit folks on my MySpace account - and I would go through it and have no clue who have of them were.
Thats another vow I made with facebook. When I had myspace, I had a lot of "Pearl Jam" friends. With facebook I will ONLY add people I've met and know, family, friends and coworkers. If I need to communicate with Pearl Jam peeps, thats why I have an account here..
After quitting Facebook a long time ago, I decided to give it another plunge to keep in touch with a few people that I worked with and hope that all the "John has thrown a sheep at you" and "You've been super-mega triple-poked by Helen" shit had calmed down.
I had a bit of a harvest on friends I had no intention of keeping in constant touch with and dropped the total from 80 people to a reasonable 32. The weird thing was one guy who I know, but have only communicated via Facebook once in 12 months, instantly asked to be my friend again when I took him off!
It's definitely a pseudo social status thing. Instead of pulling gnarly tricks on BMX's and skateboards and dressing cool to impress people, kids now run a successful farm on a computer and invite all their 1,437 friends.
You know what's weird, hearing my wife and her dad talking about MafiaWars in shorthand, it's like a different language. " I hide in Moscow, and am playing the Triads and the Yakuza against each other" " Do you get attacked constantly"? "Sure , you should attack back" "Well i do but just once, some people attack me 7 times in a row""Well dad that's the way to get ahead" "I guess" <-- The Man's having Moral Dilemma's because of this shit!!!
The only thing I am insecure about is my tiny little penis. I could care less about my small list of 95.... no wait it is now 95 Friends on FB. Suck on that!!!! If we were rounding, I could legally say I am at triple digits now!

Quite a few people from the board have tried to add me on facebook, but I always reject, just because we both like pearl jam doesn't mean were friends, and its kinda creepy for some of you to be trying to add a 17 year old girl haha so don't take it personally when i reject you xD
My friend list is only of 29 people and I like to keep it condensed. I used to let everyone from my high school add me but then i realized i didn't really care about any of those people and defriended them lol
I have recently finished a book on war, that delves into the way of brotherhood between troops in certain circumstances, and the author goes into detail about research that has been done about tribes and communities...in a nutshell, studies have found that a community or tribe larger than about 150 people, will not have the close knit support and bonding that a smaller tribe would have...once you get over a certain amount of people, that number being 150, the tribe/community hasnt the respect or brotherhood-ness if you like, to work together and have a good relationship. (it was certainly told a lot better than that and made a heap more sense, but there ya go)
But, hey, its just Facebook :P
I know of a certain someone that has, at last glance, over 1,500 "friends"...but im pretty sure it was just to gain notoriety amongst peers, and to have more people listen to their crap coz no-one in "real life" could be bothered listening any more
"....and was very surprised to see that he didnt actually have a recipe for anus-ankle soup." - Big Ed
I have 438 FB "friends" & I actually consider myself kinda picky. I barely request anyone, & I ignore all requests from ppl I haven't met in person. Last summer I deleted about 45 PJ fans that I'd never met before, & a few months ago I cleared out about 60 classmates that I was only friends with because I organized our 10yr class reunion in Oct. I keep everyone categorized on there, which makes things much easier. The numbers don't add up right, but that's cause several ppl r in multiple groups:
36= family members
33= professional colleagues
39= friends from college & grad school (I just hung out with ~20 of them at a wedding on Sat)
49= high school classmates that I still socialize with, even if it's not often
24= other friends from high school that weren't in my class
15= ppl I used to play soccer with
22= old childhood friends that I reconnected with
67= friends I met thru my husband or in other random circumstances
137 = PJ fans that I've MET in person (many with whom I am personal friends)
I did recently cave in & start accepting/requesting PJ fans I've never met before: :?46 right now. I only did this because of the PJ fan yearbook, to get to know the rest of the staff... & as "Class Editor" I'm supposed to familiarize myself with the names & faces of anyone interested in being included in the yearbook. So request me if ur one of them, haha... networking, baby!
I got slightly less than 300 friends, and at least half of them I've talked to only once in my life. But I don't really care, I'll usually add everybody who 'friend requests' me. Though I may not know 'em personally, I like seeing their concert pics and stuff like that. As for my closer 'friends', I love it :roll: when they talk about every excruciating detail of their little lives.
i am obsessed with the family feud app, oh my god.
ummmm have a lot of family/family friends being Greek.. worked at a few places... studied for eons of years.. you just accumulate them i guess.. i'm at about 300? did a big pj cull lately, just 'cos i saw you in the 10c line or said 'lol' to your thread doesn't make us friends :?

I like my privacy way to much to be on Facebook you can have it all to your selves ..
That makes no sense tho...what information will people gain from facebook that they couldn't elsewhere? What privacy are you losing?
it's not like you have to put your credit card info, phone number and address on your profile or some shit...just dont talk about anything personal, like anywhere else on the internet. if you don't want your pics online, don't upload any....but people can upload pics of you regardless of whether you're there or not. I don't know what info people are concerned about sharing - you're only sharing what you allow to be shared.
To the people who keep talking about other pit members adding them...how are they getting your name? If you trust them enough to PM them your full name....what's the differnece if you talk here or on fb?
I've got maybe 10-15 pit members on my list, and I've at least exchanged a bunch of PM's with them, or have met them in person.....I've never had an add from someone here I didn't consider a friend...
Well you see on facebook there are some pages like ten club and pearl jam that you can become a fan of, and so i think the ten club page is where many are friend requesting, some dude named demetrios tried to add me like three times lol

ah, that makes sense...I hadn't even thought of scoping the fan page for women...I'll have to work on my creepiness.
