In case anyone's interested, here's info on what percentage of women get pregnant within the first year of use of various methods of contraception, in order from most to least effective:

    0.1 - Mirena IUD
    0.15 - Vasectomy
    0.5 - Female sterilization
    0.8 - ParaGard IUD
    3 - The shot (Depo-Provera)
8 - The pill, the patch, & the ring
    15 - Male condom
16 - Diaphragm, sponge, & cervical cap (sponge & cap rates are only for women who have not had kids)
    21 - Female condom
    25 - The rhythm method
    27 - Pulling out
    29 - Spermicides
32 - The sponge & the cervical cap (for women who have had kids)
    85 - No method

Interesting stats Scb. I didnt know you could still get pregnant after a vasectomy! And what the heck is the rhythm method. I always try to have rhythm! :D

The rhythm method essentially says that there are points in the menstrual cycle where the woman can't get pregnant. So you can have sex at those times.

In years past it was very popular with Catholics, like my grandparents in Ireland.

    They had 11 children.

I would assume the 0.15% getting pregnant after the vasectomy has something to do with the UPS guy.

Or they didn't wait long enough before having sex again.

My wife keeps throwing it out there but no chance in hell I'm gonna do it. Anybody here have it done? If you want to talk about it. What's the process like?
    ...
Personally... I spend every waking second of every waking hour of every waking day of my life concerned with two things:
    1. Keeping sharp, cutting metal utensils away from my crotchal region... AND
    2. Keeping fire away from Mr. Happy and the boys.
    ...
A vasectomy has both... maybe not fire... technically. But, there is smoke that comes from the region during the process, so yeah... I consider it fire.

This is for all of you men who have undergone fire in the hole in order to keep your loved one happy and her uterus unoccupied. You're all Really Great Big Super Weirdos, and we salute you: The Captain Fire Crotches of the Ten Club.

Haha... I thought you were going to post this (which I assume is okay to post since it's deemed suitable for all ages on YouTube).

That's the first joke I got told when I announced I was pregnant. My 'free from any medication interfering with my body' phase ended that year. Must say though - nicest surprise ever.
