OK, since everyone knows about the kick, I hafta discuss my discrepancy... why does Ellen Page push Fischer out the window in the last level, as a kick, & then jump herself? It's my understanding that the kick has to happen in the level that they're sleeping in... so that one doesn't make any sense. They only should have woken up in the snow level by falling within in that level. And for that matter, there was no reason to blow up the building the snow level, cause at that point no one was sleeping (unless that kick was set for Leo). The elevator kick in the next level is what brought them outta the snow level. U guys know what I mean?!

I don't think that was meant as a kick. I think jumping out the window, they killed themselves. If you die in limbo, I think you go back up to the next level you came from, so they went back to the fortress. Leo and Saito killed themselves many years later, and jumped all the way back up to reality, even though it was probably only a second after Fischer and Ellen Page in reality. The thing is that Eames had to time the revival of Fischer with Fischer's consciousness coming back from limbo.

Yeah, I guess that makes sense, since he discovered before (on the train tracks) that killing urself in limbo would bring u back. But did Leo & Saito actually kill themselves (they don't show it) in limbo, or did the timer just run out on the plane, so they woke up with everyone else? Who knows... haha, looks like I need to go see it again. :)

Yah... they dont show them die in limbo... maybe Saito convinced Leo that he could make the life he wanted in limbo instead of going back... waking up on the plane and going to his kids could all have been invented in limbo... could that be the explanation for the end? Or was the whole thing a dream?

absolutely loved this film. so refreshing to have a mind challenging, new concept. i only read the last page of comments and understand the whole kicks to the new level and the way in which all got back to "real" life....or did they? has anyone commented yet on the totem that was left spinning on leonardo's-cobb's home table after he was back. in dreams it kept spinning, in real life it toppled.....so are we to second guess that he really did indeed make it back? i'm at a loss with this one. want to believe he's with his family in real life, but that darned spinning totem....nolan's laughing at us all ;)

The wobble was Nolan's Inception to the audience so when you view the film again you will be questioning what you believed the first time round. I suspect the film itself is a mirror of the stair case paradox. The more you try to prove one point the easier it will be to prove the other side and vise versa.

two questions... just got back from seeing it.

-was the screen flickering strangely for the whole film for anyone else? I couldn't focus on the first 45 minutes because of the flickering. ...and it wasnt the light between frames. It was like sections of the screen dimmed 20% for 1/2 a second every 2 seconds. ;ust my theater or everywhere?

-the last 3 seconds, did the top wobble? I was searching behind me for the source of a cellphone rining and missed the ending.

It did start to wobble. In dream sequences, the thing spun with no wobble. The one at the end wobbled a bit before it cut out.

My theater didn't flicker either. At the end, the top didn't visually wobble much, but the audio was definitely that of it wobbling.

I think Nolan was telling us at the end that it doesn't matter if the totem kept spinning or toppled. Cobb spins the totem but he walks away from it. When he finally sees his kids faces it no longer matters to him whether or not he's still dreaming or back in reality. By fading to black at that moment we realise that it isn't important anymore. As Saito said early on, Cobb needed to take a leap of faith and that's exactly what he did. He's let go of his regrets and his guilt and is finally happy.

But yeah, I also agree that it was meant to make us doubt everything else we believed just a little bit :p

My dad and I thought it was starting to wobble. My brother didn't. I know it doesn't really make much difference, but the people behind us kept saying something about a sequel which I could totally see happening. Great movie overall! Loved it even though we missed the first 5 to 10 minutes and the opening previews. :( Definitely one I want to see again to fill in some confusion areas.

eh... i like to think that nolan is "above" sequels... batman being the exception cause the sequential thing is such a big part of the comic world... and it sounds like theres a lot of studio pressure to milk that cash cow

i dont see inception 2 happening tho... his talents are better served coming up with another awesome idea :D

Saw this last night and thought it was very good. Not a film to have a 5 minute snooze in as you'll lose the plot. It was also weird to see Leo getting out of a helicopter in front of a futuristic looking building that is my wife's workplace. I could have been in it. I could have been seen shoving her bike into the back of my car. Fame has escaped me again.

my dreams that night were fucked up!

I think they are subliminally screwing with us. I did not get a flicker, but maybe your every 8th frame mind suggestion feature in your theater was not working right.

    I thought it was great!

I love how it's left to be open to interpretation. You can think of many possible scenarios and still enjoy the movie no matter which you think or try to think.

Funny enough, I had a dream a few weeks ago that I had a dream. I woke up into another dream. I was in my apartment, but I dreamt I woke up from a dream on my parents couch. It felt so real I was trying to figure out how the hell I got there..

I'm still not convinced I'm truly awake.

    Cue to film clue

In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a single idea can be the most dangerous weapon or the most valuable asset.

Video feedbackVideo settingsHAVING systematically picked apart the critical arguments for and against Christopher Nolan's Inception and the many possible meanings of that dream-within-a-dream-within-a-dream caper, the film's fans on the web have gone deeper by focusing on its music.

A video by a pseudonymous author, camiam321, comparing the Edith Piaf song Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien to Hans Zimmer's score for the movie has circulated widely on the internet. It plays a key musical cue from the Inception score - two ominous blares from a brass section - followed by a slowed version of the Piaf song (which the Inception characters play at regular speed as a warning to wake up from a dream state). They sound nearly identical.

Zimmer, who won an Academy Award for his music for The Lion King, said the sonic similarity was not only intentional but it was an element of an enigmatic film ''that wasn't supposed to be a secret''.

Advertisement: Story continues belowThe musical cue, Zimmer said, ''was our big signpost'' to show the film's characters moving from one level of dreaming (or reality) into another. ''It was like a drawing of a huge finger saying, 'OK, different time'.''

Zimmer said the idea for this musical game began with Nolan, the film's director and writer. ''He had the Edith Piaf always written in the script, the da-da, da-da,'' Zimmer said, imitating the cadence of that song. ''It was like huge foghorns over a city, and afterward you would maybe figure out that they were related.''

Nolan was on vacation and unavailable, but in the liner notes to the Inception score, he writes that the music is meant to pull the audience ''through a potentially confusing tale by orienting them emotionally, geographically, temporally''. (He also describes Zimmer as someone who ''never lets practical realities limit his belief in the power of ideas''.)

Technically, Zimmer said, that part of his score was not a slowing of Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien, but was constructed from a single manipulated beat from the version recorded by Piaf in 1960. ''I had to go and extract these two notes out of a recording,'' he said. ''I love technology, so it was a lot of fun for me to go and get the original master out of the French national archives. And then find some crazy scientist in France who would actually go and take that one cell out of the DNA.''

The manipulated beat comprises about five minutes of Zimmer's 132-minute score, but all its tempos, he said, are ''subdivisions and multiplications of the tempo of the Edith Piaf track''.

''I could slip into half-time,'' he said. ''I could slip into a third of a time. Anything could go anywhere. At any moment I could drop into a different level of time.''

In this sense the score is Zimmer's personal interpretation of Inception, which many viewers see as a commentary on the nebulous boundary between dreaming and reality.

''Everybody thinks the dream is the important part,'' Zimmer said. ''For me the time was the important part: the idea that, in a peculiar way, Chris had made a time-travel movie that actually worked.''

I can see how the time travel aspect was more important than the dream aspect.. Time is all part of our consciousness anyways. Time speeds up and slows down depending on our brain and awareness.

    *kinda spoiler*

The top DEFINITELY wobbled :D the reaction of everyone was really funny... everyone was pretty much like 'ahhhh' but I reckon it was gonna fall... not that it matters cos the film is very much open to interpretation.

I can't see there being a sequel... one of the few minor probs I had with the film was that it felt like a trilogy rolled into a single film... I think it deserved a trilogy... brilliant brilliant amazing brain fuck of a film... my head hurt afterwards. I was often on the edge of losing it but it pulled me back in every time.

Another minor problem I had was that it Cillian Murphy was underused. I think he's actually my favourite actor at the moment and he deserved a bit more depth. I'm slowly starting to like Leo... very slowly! I don't think he deserves all the roles he's gotten
