Uptick in Violence Forces Closing of Parkland Along Mexico Border to Americans

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/06/16/cl ... americans/

About 3,500 acres of southern Arizona have been closed off to U.S. citizens due to increased violence at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The closed off area includes part of the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge that stretches along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu told Fox News that violence against law enforcement officers and U.S. citizens has increased in the past four months, forcing officers on an 80 mile stretch of Arizona land north of the Mexico border off-limits to Americans.

The refuge had been adversely affected by the increase in drug smugglers, illegal activity and surveillance, which made it dangerous for Americans to visit.

"The situation in this zone has reached a point where continued public use of the area is not prudent," said refuge manager Mitch Ellis.

“It’s literally out of control,” said Babeu. “We stood with Senator McCain and literally demanded support for 3,000 soldiers to be deployed to Arizona to get this under control and finally secure our border with Mexico. “

U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials have warned visitors in Arizona to beware of heavily armed drug smugglers and human traffickers.

“We need support from the federal government. It’s their job to secure the border and they haven’t done it,” said Babeu. “In fact, President Obama suspended the construction of the fence and it’s just simply outrageous.”

Signs have been posted warning Americans not to cross into the closed off territory south of Interstate 8. Babeu said the signs are not enough – he said Arizona needs more resources to help scale back the violence caused by the drug cartels.

“We need action. It’s shameful that we, as the most powerful nation on Earth, … can’t even secure our own border and protect our own families.”

I watch Fox every day and I mainly Listen to Conservative Radio ..... What a bunch of wackos! Bunch of talking heads... and most of the time fail to inform their listeners of important information ....

Does anyone take you seriously? Am I the only one who is willing to call you out? I guess everyone just has had it with you Tea Party B.S! Stop Destroying America! We Want Progress! We Want A Better Tomorrow!

Ok, I'll play along, I'll try make-believe land.

As a drug cartel member I'm happy I can expand my territory, even if it means invading a foreign country. New Markets!!!!!!

Nah, I can't buy it and I'm guessing most here would agree that it is a problem. Our military should be down there defending our country from foreign aggressors.

  • UNSUNG:
Thanks for posting the story. Part of America is so violent and dangerous, and the border in the area so unsecured, that the US Gov't has had to close the park off to American citizens. We cannot go to a part of our own country b/c drug cartels have taken it over.

Here's another link so TONFIG can stop his conniption fit:
    http://www.nationalterroralert.com/upda ... americans/

You won't find this story on Obama's networks (MSNBC, CNN), at least not right away, and when they do, it will be a blurb that nobody hears. Different networks have different agendas, and they report stories that support it and ignore ones that don't. I watch Fox b/c I care about the growing debt, our unsecured borders, and the unparalleled weakness of or foreign policy position thanks to the worst president since Carter, and probably ever.

PS: You cannot post anything on PJ.com with a FOX news link. Drones like the cognitively-challenged TONFIG8 (who has yet "to get back to you on that") lose their minds when they see "FOX". Just check out TONFIG's reaction to your post. But he "watches FOX all day", and he "sees BOTH sides of every argument." He's "truly" Binaural. haha.

You started a thread about an important topic- that highlights something that has never happened in American History, and focuses on the inept and utter failure of this administration (and Bush Jr's also) to secure our borders.

Unfortunately, this topic doesn't fit in w/ the agendas of most people on this site, and any post that follows this will probably attack you, me, foxnews, and Bush.

My advice: enjoy the tantrums that your posts will inevitably cause here, but look elsewhere for informed and open-minded, intelligent debate.

    Deuces.

  • ed#####- I called it... "If it's from FOX, it can't be true."

"4 months- this 'AZ thing goin on" = classic misunderstanding. This law has been on Fed books forever.

Many drones don't realize that the AZ law is identical to the Fedreal law that requires the same thing. The Fed just won't enforce it. States are going bankrupt trying to deal w the epidemic.

Typical- Gov't decides which laws they want to obey, but forces us to obey them all.

NOTE: In Mexico, the law requires that a US citizen carry paperwork at all times, and a cop can ask to see it for a lot less than what the AZ law requires.

COMPROMISE: Build a wall, THEN grant citizenship to 12 million illegals. I think that Dems and Reps could live w/ that.

What is so wrong w/ protecting our borders?

Recently large demonstrations have taken place
Across the country protesting the fact that Arizona
Is addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

    Certain people are angry that
The US might protect its own
    Borders, might make it harder
To sneak into this country and,
    Once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand
    The thinking behind these protests.
Let's say I break into your house.
Let's say that when you discover
Me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, 'No! I like it here.
It's better than my house. I've made all
    The beds and washed the
    Dishes and did the laundry
    And swept the floors. I've
Done all the things you don't
    Like to do. I'm hard-working
    And honest
(except for when I broke into your house).

    According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house
You are Required to feed me
You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan
You are Required to Educate my kids
You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because
He is also hard-working and honest, except for that
    Breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out,
I will call my friends who will picket your
House carrying signs that proclaim my
    RIGHT to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have
A nicer house than I do, and I'm just
    Trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working
And honest, person, except for well,
You know, I did break into your house
And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a
Fraction of the cost of my keep, and
There is nothing you can do about it
    Without being accused of cold,

    Uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and
    Bigoted behavior.

Common Sense? Where what exactly are you saying? that illegal immigrants come to this land and ask for things?? The federal government doesn't hand anything out to illegal immigrants.... You must be a legal citizen to receive any type of aid from the USA.

What solutions do you bring to the table?

Have your taxes gone up to pay for people who are not working? Do you care that the country is spending about 9 billion a month on Iraq? Do you care that Iraq has over 100 billion in our banks and is collecting interest off of us, yet they aren't forking out any cash towards the war?

Why are we blowing so much money in Iraq?
