Your right- The situation forced the cop to the level of force.... I just think he should have maced them- and moved to a neutral ground.

"The situation" was someone physically assaulting him. He used similar methods to stop the person, just like if a person drew a gun on him, he would have used a similar method.

Mace doesn't just affect the one person. Mace travels in the air and with the potential for hurting quite a number of innocent bystanders, he chose to do something that would affect 1 person, in a similar manner in how he was being assaulted.

good point. I have also been maced. It was an accident too. I was next to a guy that got maced by a crazed drunk girl. I would also rather get punched in the jug than maced in the face.

Dude your missing the point.... was he able to contain the situation? No... he was still struggling with both girls... did the bunch fix the problem? No ...it would have had the same affect if he had simply pushed her away... was he in a potentially dangerous situation? Yes... anyone of those persons could have taken his gun...
why aren't you seeing the point?

    You're missing the point.

"The situation" was that he was working on carefully detaining 1 person who was resisting arrest. A second person decided to create a new-situation, and began assaulting him, presumably to prevent him from doing his job. He stopped that person from assaulting him, and continued to detain the first person. He realized the second person was assaulting him and was a growing threat, and he took decisive action. What would "pushing her back" have done? Given him about 2 seconds of peace? That is not the same effect as what he ended up doing like you are suggesting it would be.

i cannot believe adults cannot watch a clear video and see what is happening.
this is preposterous, outrageous, absurd, & ludicrous.
all because 2 young women are irrational or illogically violent towards a police officer.

Two women were on him at several moments during the altercation...Had that one guy not taken one of the girls off of him, she could have easily pulled his gun? Is that a good position to be in?
There were a total of four woman at the begging and 1 man....
If he had been dealing with two large men ...do you honestly think it would have played out the same way? Do you think he would have thought to himself that maybe he wouldn't be able to handle two men? And he would need to call for back up? or pull a weapon out? Especially if they are charging him? He couldn't detain one women who was much smaller in size.... My point is that he allowed a bad situation to potentially get worst ...with out taking the proper precautions..... at any moment he could have easily been attacked.... Because these girls weren't threatening him ..it made it much easier for him to handle them.... He didn't really connect on the punch...The girl went back because she was shocked .... I think that's why the nation is shocked.... a police officer punching a girl in the face... If that wouldn't have happened no one would have really cared.... I know I wouldn't .... it happens everyday....

Al Sharpton is nothing but a bigot. He gives the Afro-American race a bad name. All he is concerned about is getting his fat ugly face on television. He loves a chance to jump at a case of police brutality or profiling. He loves when things like that happen so he can go on t.v and have the "victims family" at his side at the podium, where he will give yet another bullshit speech. He portrays himself as caring and sympathetic, a man of honor who wants equal rights for all and who shows that he cares about victims of race crimes. WRONG!!!! He's a fucking racist through and through. Do you live in NYC? I do, so imagine my disgust when I see his grotesque body on t.v....UGGHHH!!!! This in no way is a claim that all cases of police brutality are false. I am not a racist and do not hate al sharpton because he is black, but because he is a fake, an attention hungry whore. You'll never see him trying to stop black on black youth crime in the ghettos of NYC, oh no. He cares nothing about the progression of black people, especially young black people. He cares about himself and no one else, ok, think I made my point.

i think the cops in seattle take jaywalking serious because so many people get ran over by vehicles.
there are lots of hit and runs up in and around seattle.
i hear it on the news all the time.

    hence why they enforce jaywalking???

Great video, knew it wouldn't be too long till Old Al got his mug on t.v. Though I must take back the fat comment, looks like he lost a ton of weight. Plain and simple, YOU dont want to be punched by a cop, LISTEN TO HIS ORDERS AND STOP RESISTING. Accept the fine, and show some respect. I agree that punching a woman, well, not keen on that. But, if they would do what most normal people would have, then they wouldn't have the problem they were having. I can't understand how anyone see's it any other way. It's not black and white, it is showing a degree of maturity and respect towards law enforcement. Whenever the cops stopped me when I was younger, I know I never once looked to fight them. Al, you're an asshole!! You are incoherent, racist, and a selfish PIG!!!!!! Joy is no genius either, horrible interviewing.
