Can't believe there hasn't been a topic on him yet with all the damn hype!

No way he can match the hype, but he's struck out 6 of the first 9 batters even though the first time or two around the pitcher should have the advantage.

the break on his curveballs is pretty sick and the home run notwithstanding, he's been impressive.

I was going to post earlier about Strasburg.

I think the guy has a TON of talent, but only time will tell.

He reminds me a bit of Mark Prior. Slow, easy wind up, with an explosive release.
For Strasburg's sake, I hope he has a longer career...

The hype here in DC has been over the top.....6 strikeouts, 4 hits, given up 2 runs .....2-1 Pirates

Strasburg is done for the night and with ALL the hype and pressure he has done very well in his DC debut. He may even get the win but this is the Nationals and they find a way to lose games.

14 K's in his first big league game. I would say he is going to be a pretty good pitcher.

Yeah, it's impressive. Only runs coming off the homer. Should be fun to see how he handles a more stacked team.

  • Well color me impressed. Granted, it was against the Pirates, but 0 walks and 14 strikeouts (including the last 7 in a row) in 7 innings is about as good as it gets. Those batters' knees were buckling all night the way he mixed things up.

Bob Gibson was seen hand washing this kid's balls in the shower after the game.

Afterwards, his 2 ton golden testicles were mounted on the Nationals clubhouse wall until his next start. People will travel from all over the globe to kiss them.

Before putting him in the hall of fame, I want to see what he does the 2nd or third time facing the same team.

true. once teams get the scouting reports on him, he'll have a tougher time. but he'll make adjustments as well. whatever happens, i would pay to watch him pitch. that breaking stuff was INSANE.

Yeah scouting may pick up some tendencies or whatever, but if his stuff is always that nasty, it doesn't matter a whole lot how you prepare for him.

I think his next start is against Cleveland- so we may have to wait for start # 3. EDIT-I think that is against the O's. Maybe # 4 then.

It was impressive though. 14K's, no walks. Under 100 pitches.

At least it gives people in DC a bandwagon to jump on until the Redskins start training camp. At which point McNabbs performance in 7 on 7 drills in practice will be more important than anything to sports fan around here.

Sports Talk Radio here in DC is red hot with the rising stadom of the Capitals Ovechkin, McNabb entry into Redskins and maybe making a difference with them, The #1 pick to the Wizards and possibly choosing the kid from Kentucky, and the Nationals and Strasburg who chose Bryce Harper with the #1 pick overall in MLB.

I believe this will be Strasburg next 4 starts if they are no rain outs...

    Kansas City Royals
    NY Mets on July 4th

Unfortunately, he lives in the age of technology. He's only pitched once in the Bigs but by his next start, hitters will have watched hundreds of hours of video on him. People will hit him. He will lose games. It's not realistic to think he can't be touched. But, there's no doubt that his arm is a bolt of lightning and he can do some actual pitching. I'm excited about watching him and Bryce Harper for years to come.

It was a pretty sweet performance, but I heard Cowherd say that no other pitcher has (or will have) filled the stands like Strasburg. Ummm, and I know we have some Sox fans on here, but I distinctly remember going to Pedro games just b/c he was pitching and the people were always there to see him. Usually when the home team is up people sit and watch, and when they pitch they piss, get a beer, hot dog, or whatever. When Pedro was pitching in Fenway Park it was the other way around.

When Strasburg has a game against the equivalent of Roger Clemens in May, and everyone that cares a little about baseball stops what they are doing to watch it. Then he matches 0 for 0 with said pitcher (maybe a Johan Santana/Roy Halladay type) and wins the game on a complete game shutout (or something similar) I will admit that he has reached that level of stardom. Until then Pedro '97-'01 will always be the king. Still last night was fun.
