So there is news today that the PAC-10 is looking to expand to the PAC-16 creating a huge Mega-conference with a massive new TV deal.

Two 8 team divisions

Washington
Washington St.
Oregon
Oregon St.
California
Stanford
USC
UCLA

Arizona
Arizona St.
Texas
Texas Tech
Colorado
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Oklahoma St.

This would be nuts if that happened.

thats like almost all of the big 12 that would join. where is the rest of the big 12 supposed to go, the big 10 :lol: . this would ruin college sports as we know it if this super pac-16 went down.

But the PAC-10 will allow Texas to keep their rivalries which is a huge selling point.

rumor is, if ND joins, part of the deal would be they would be the only new team allowed in.

missouri is getting the cold sholder from the big 10.

right now, it sounds NE is in and might be the only team in, although they could also bring in an east coast team. rutgers soudns like the target if that is the case

All the realigning may lead to a pretty good football playoff picture. I figure within the next five years there will be four power conferences. I see the Big East merging with some ACC teams while the rest go to the SEC. Along with the Big 16 and Pac 16, this will set up an eight team playoff (the first four games would be conference championships) and then a four team BCS playoff.

Of course, this screws the smaller teams but oh well. Money and greed rules college athletics.

    • Northwestern
    • Nebraska
    • Iowa
    • Illinois

    Eastern Conference
    • Michigan
    • Michigan State
    • Ohio State
    • Penn State
    • Pittsburgh
    • West Virginia
    • Syracuse
    • Rutgers

Texas is still the big player. Pac-10 and Big-10(until the Nebraska announcement) are still both at 11 teams right now and both want a championship game. ND I think will wait it out to see what Texas does. Some reports that the SEC is pushing hard for Texas and/or Texas A&M too. And word is the Big 10 wants a piece of the east coast market- Rutgers or Maryland. Possibility of a lot of conference shake ups over the next few weeks.

The Rutgers players might be listed as killed in action playing in that half. Syracuse too.

at the end of the day, i don't like these super confrences. imo, you should have to play every team in your confrence every season. 10 is a good number. that gives you 9 confrence games and 3 non confrence and 1 confrence championship game to decide which 8 teams play in the championship tourney.

It really is, some rilavlries will be gone, but some new ones may emerge. But in 5-10 years there may only be 4 major conferences only- PAC16, BIG16, SEC and some Big East/ACC hybrid. Will suck for all the smaller schools trying to get through.
