I'm all for bands (pj, neil young, wilco, mmj etc etc) playing different setlists with few hits but with the modern SP's it's a different story... they need to play the hits otherwise no one is interested in seeing them. they were in my book always more a hits band than most. Also billy has lost the plot in recent years, too many negative band changes and that solo album!! eck!
I'm just flying around the other side of the world to say I love you

    Solo album is good.

Billy doesn't care if people go to his shows. He could quite easily sell out arenas and play Today about a million times if he wanted to but he is so beyond that shite its unreal. He doesn't need to make anymore money, he can just chill getting older, write songs with friends and play smallish clubs etc.

Saw them in Columbus tonite at the Newport. Holy crap. It was WAAAAY better than I expected. I feel like I've been assaulted. It looked like BC was having fun, and he really never seemed to be having fun before.

Cherub Rock in a 1200 seat club may be in the top 5 live songs I've ever heard.

Lol the smashing pumpkins. More like Billy corgan and friends. Sure, missing their guitarist and bassist was okay, but going on without this guy:

    Me too.

    Billy was the brains.
    Jimmy was the heart.
James and D'arcy were the legs.

You can live without legs, but not without the heart.

They're playing this week in town. I probably wouldn't go if the tickets were free. Billy underestimates the importance of what Jimmy does.

So I went yesterday to the B'more show on a whim. Since I have summers off, I went with a grad student at about 10 in the morning and were 4th and 5th in line for the show. We did that because we heard that the first 20 people in line, plus another 40 radio show winners got let in early to watch them soundcheck 6 new songs that they've been working on and have a Q and A with Billy and friends. It was so cool I almost just left after that because the concert wasn't going to keep up. I was wrong about that though because they were very good live, and I really was blown away by the amount of fun I had at the show. So yes, if you can go, and have the time to blow a day go and check them out and try to get the soundcheck in too.

Went to Richmond show last night, not expecting too much....was blown away. He has put together a GREAT band. Drummer is unreal. Billy was in a great mood. Said more cities needed to be like Richmond. I was actually surprised by the crowd, they were really into the show. He really needs to move on, be happy and play. No more public drama. His playing can make people forget how whiny he can be.

They will be hitting up Chicago next week to perform a benifit show for a guy in the hospital that was beat down when he tried to stop some douche from beating on his wife.

I enjoyed it but the other three people he had on stage with him seemed like shadows.

Except for the drummer. He seemed like a kid (eighteen or so) darn happy to be there. I do wonder what those songs would have sounded like with four fully engaged people playing them?

I hope if they're going for hidden gems they play something from Pisces Iscariot. Billy are you reading this post?! Play Frail and Bedazzled! Play Whir! Play Starla!

But above all else they must play Drown. I'd pay $50 just to hear that song played live.
  • callencallen Posts: 6,388
Yeah give me Drown and I'm set. Will be at the Houston show in few says. Drown has been on many set lists so good chance. Saw them at cynthia woods last time and Billy was on the rag......hoping he's cool this time.
