i totally agree. i think it would be perfect if they could get the crowd onto these boots. that is what i think made both nights so special for me. the crowd was into it more then any other time ive seen them. lets keep this thread going.
If they don't do it, then all of you must come to my house when I listen to the boot and recreate live...

I can get behind this. Normally I'm happy to hear a music-heavy, professional sounding mix on the boots but this show was so nuts I would love to hear the crowd a little more than usual. Now if only there were a way to include video of the meathead dude who danced his ass off in our aisle the entire show... classic.
Any word on where to find the audience recording? I'm definitely, definitely buying the official bootleg as soon as it comes out but I could use something to tide me over until then (or at least until my damn Philly boots come in the mail!)

BrownsNoise - you didn't happen to be Mike's side on the floor on the second section, did you? I kept looking at a meathead dude dancing his ass off all show too - was hysterically funny when the usher kept coming by pushing him back into his seat. He made a complete joke of it and just gave the usher a high five nearly every time

Hahaha no, I was actually up in the nosebleeds (303). We dubbed him "flannel guy" as he often would roll the ends of his flannel shirt in his hands in between air guitar solos to illustrate his seemingly unbearable yet euphoric connection to the band. He had perfected such moves as the backward leaning out of key scream/sing, the 6 stair jumpdown, the "epic solo" high-five, and of course the 5 beer shuffle. It was very entertaining and it's wonderful that these guys are a dime a dozen in a Pearl Jam crowd so that we can all enjoy a sideshow.

I've heard it done to old zappa shows. Where as many as four sources were combined. It works.

I wouldn't say that the official boots have been "sh*t," I think they have been quite good.

Either you haven't heard many or have bad ears
Screw the crowd noise. I just want a nice full sounding, well mixed copy of the show
Finally a voice of reason. To the person who said the 2000 recordings were great and everything since then was bad, I think the solution would be to go to You-Tube and to whatever you go to in order to get people's personal recordings from the crowd. I remember the endless complaining when Santa Barbara 2003 wasn't released like Benaroya, and the crowd boot reflected the reality of crowd vs. band. Like DewieCox stated, a full sounding, well mixed copy is ultimately important. If there is some way to elevate the crowd level some while maintaining a fully dynamic sound, I'm for it. If it means muddying the music like what occurred in USA 2000 to where dynamic sound went out the door, then I'm not. I think it can be done and keep it sounding professional. If it can't, I vote for the music, not the crowd. One can go to Times Square on New Years Eve and tape the crowd if you really want to hear a crowd. I agree with the OP's intentions if the music doesn't suffer.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river
Although I didn't go to the MSG shows , I'm going to throw in my vote for a tad more crowd noise. Mostly just during the songs where everyone tends to sing along. One of the highlights of the Columbus show for me was hearing thousands of people singing "My god it's been so long. Never dreamed you'd return..." at the top of their lungs. Still gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!
For me, that is one of the magic parts of going to a show - to be one with the crowd passionately sharing something in common at the same time. In past boots, I haven't heard much of the crowd singing in parts where I expected it to be very loud.
The big thing for me that separates a bootleg from being there, is the presence of the crowd. The band has microphones pointing outwards to capture crowd noise - how about giving the crowd more presence for these MSG boots? For me, that crowd noise was what made those shows so damn special. Anyone with me?
I'll probably get dropped kick for this but I would prefer to hear more live & unedited guitars, bass, drums, keyboards & vocals louder then the audience sound on digital or CD format. If I'm gonna drop money on professionally done live recordings I want the best of the best from the soundboard & stage mixes. I'm not interested in paying to hear louder screams in my car or @ the bar and on the road or in the comfort of my home with stereo surround sound speakers. I want more Pearl Jam live. More Ed, Jeff, Stone, Mike, Matt & Boom then the crowd's scream overpowering the band on stage. Have you heard Kiss Alive 3? We don't want something like that released by Pearl Jam. Believe me! I'm paying to hear my band @ work. If you want to hear your friend Cindy scream's on Crazy Mary or when Maria screams out "I want your baby Eddie", I don't want to hear all that on these professional live bootlegs. If you want more of the audience sound then the Pearl Jam music, the Pearl Jam trading community has a huge fan base of tapers & traders. These show's are already released on many torrents sites. They are called audience recordings. Just my 2 cents! *ducks for cover

Fair enough.. that said, I think if they don't take the suggestion for more crowd presence, I'll probably attempt to make an SBD/AUD matrix for my first time. While I can appreciate wanting top quality from your bootlegs, I don't think that a bootleg is exclusively either void of crowd presence or crap quality - I think with proper mixing, MSG doesn't have to sound like they're playing in a library, nor does any band member have to sound drowned out amongst the crowd.

I'd love to see this at an IMAX kind of like when they did Imagine in Cornice at select theaters. Big ass screen and loud speakers would probably get us as close to the real thing as possible.
I have said it in a few other posts already, the crowd carried Night 2 from start to finish & was unreal.
I am totally behind this move.
