**Petition to KEEP MORE CROWD NOISE on MSG Bootlegs!!**

benjsbenjs Toronto, ON Posts: 9,018
edited June 2010 in The Porch
The big thing for me that separates a bootleg from being there, is the presence of the crowd. The band has microphones pointing outwards to capture crowd noise - how about giving the crowd more presence for these MSG boots? For me, that crowd noise was what made those shows so damn special. Anyone with me? :D

    Most definitely.

The crowd was absolutely nuts & so very loud- it was extremely powerful!

Agreed. Pearl Jam is always great, but a BIG part of what made these shows extraordinary was the crowd.

I've never been a part of anything like that in my life....if they could keep that noise that I still feel on the bootleg.....I would be so, so happy.

In!!! One thing I didn't like about the Philly bootlegs was the crowd....that crowd was OUT OF CONTROL (especially night 4) and you don't hear it all that well on the boot.

    + 19 ;)

example is the philly boots partically night 3 where it was one of the best and loudest crowds i've witnessed and it really doesnt capture that on the bootleg.

im no engineer or technician, but im sure they can raise the volume of the crowd during certain parts of the concert to capture that feeling since they have mics that are pointing straight out to the crowd.

the crowd is really important factor for me it least when it comes to buying bootlegs, if i wasnt there i wanna feel like i was. 8-)

Hell yes! The reaction of the crowd is what causes heebie-jeebies to me when listening to the boots. Obviously all the more if you've personally been to this particular show (that's why I love and prefer (and always will) the boot of my first show - Bern 2006 - great crowd acoustic crowd presence!)

Another thing I'd love to have back on the boots is the intro. It's simply a part of the whole show so why cutting it of? Another thing I love about 'my' Bern boot..;)

Pearl jam haven't gotten the bootlegs right since 00. Every tour since 00 has been shit. Audience bootlegs are the way I go these days.

Listening to MSG Night Two audience boot that's out there right now, and I'm starting to wonder if you're right.

I wouldn't say that the official boots have been "sh*t," I think they have been quite good.

I definitely agree, though, that (especially when a crowd is exceptional) there is the opportunity to attempt to capture that better on the boot.

I don't really know anything about concert recording, but I wonder if there has been an attempt to set up an additional mike or two dedicated to capturing only the crowd's contribution to shows...

I agree. This is what one of the reasons the 2003 bootlegs are so great. Great balance of crowd noise and band.
