USGA executive director Mike Davis walking into interview room for impromptu news conference. Me: "How are you?" Him: "Wet."

Its going to be wet, no doubt and scores will likely be low, but Rory went low a couple years ago and I didn't hear any complaints.

As long we get some dry weather and the puddles drain, we'll be good.

Scattered storms tomorrow. Beautiful forecast Saturday. Can't fucking wait.

Mike Davis said the course drains well, hopefully that's not just lip service.

that is correct, no cell phones allowed.

talk to a few people today who were in the area said police were all over. no way to get too close. some businesses and houses on Lancaster avenue were advertising places to park but that's not all that close.

First things first, Merion is fucking awesome.

Second, the course looks to be in great shape, the spectator paths though are very muddy in places. They are doing their best though, but plan on getting dirty.

    What a phenomenal fucking day.

Got to see Tiger on about 4 holes, think he only played 10. It was funny, on 5, EVERYONE was putting it about 10 yards short, I mean everyone. Tiger comes up and puts it to 4 feet. Everyone just laughed.

Got to see a lot of people. Saw a lot of Fowler and Johnson when we first got there. Saw Rory, McDowell, Snedeker, Bubba (got to see him hit the driver towards the end of the day with almost no fans at the tee, it was awesome), Big Easy, Luke Donald and of course Tiger. So many others too, but those are the ones that I saw a few times today. Only person I wish I saw today and didn't was Kuchar.

Fucking blast. Can't fucking wait till Saturday.

Logistical: public transportation is simple. Highly recommended. Back nine looks like it is going to get VERY congested. Didn't spend too much time back there.

Edit: Side note, The Big Easy is a massive human being

Yeah, he played 1-10, I believe. He went off at 12:45 today, which is very rare. He is usually the first one out, so I would plan on getting there early tomorrow, especially since he went out later today. It was really cool to see everyone on the greens. They would all get there then drop 4 balls and start putting all over the green to where they think the pins will be.

Let me know what you think about the back and if you find any decent spots. Check out the 14th tee. The practice green and 14th tee are basically the same thing. It's hilarious.

hope local boy Jim Furyk does well. Kinda his "home turf", although I read he's only played there twice.

yesterday was awesome. we camped out at the 7th hole grand stand most of the morning. you can see that hole's approach and then the par 3 9 is right to your right. the par 5 4 is right there too. great spot. there's also a hill along the 9th hole behind those houses that looks like a good place to watch a lot of the action--in the shade too. stayed near 18 and back 9 in the afternoon. tiger was pretty much done by the time we got there. that sucked.

we had access to the trophy club and had lunch there. pretty cool spot on haverford college's campus, so a bit of a walk there, over the tracks. but the food was halfway decent. full bar and everything with tons of tvs. at one point when the golf channel went to commercial, they played about a minute of Hard Sun, which was lovely.

got to see sergio on a few holes. padraig harington. david toms. saw some golfer, nobody ever heard of (and can't remember his name now..russell sullivan maybe?) sign some old crusty chick's left boob. it was disgusting...and hillarious.

i had no idea until yesterday that this "derecho" storm we are having packs quite the punch. this morning around 9:45, it looked like it was about 8:30 in the evening it was so dark and menacing. doesnt look like it will last that long this afternoon though. round 2 should be coming in the next hour or so. glad they are able to get in as much as they are today.

looks like merion is defending itself quite well ... my favourite part about the us open is how the winner's score is usually around par ...

Yeah I am a little surprised at this with how wet it is. Can't imagine of it was hard and shots were rolling into he rough.
