Totally - let's help them... Of course it's not problem-free. Such things always come with problems, logistical or otherwise. But I think it's worth it anyhow. We just have to keep working to try and solve those problems the best we can, figure out what is conceivably possible and what isn't. Obviously care must be taken to set up a system that doesn't lead to overwhelming the system to the point where the refugees aren't suffering more than they need to during the process.

hmmmm...my first reaction was to lighten up since it’s just a messageboard and the reality of the people here care more than the general population.
But I think you have a point. Except I don’t have a white picket fence.
So anyhow, what I struggle with is these people are leaving there homes for financial reasons or local crime reasons. They are asylum seekers fleeing war, a tyrannical government, etc. And the man they are continuing to pass through other countries to get specifically to the US. So, I’m unsure what I think should really happen when they show up. If you let everyone in, how big is the next one? But if you don’t what will these people do, how will they live? And should they be let in at the expense of other immigration? There is no easy choice.
Could one make the argument that America is the greatest country in the world based on what these caravan of people will do to get here? I mean they are risking life and limb to get to the promise land.

We are currently dealing with thousands of refugees who are walking across the border from the US because the US government is making them fearful about sudden deportation and shit, so Canada is busy with that at the moment.

As a Canadian I have no problem taking in legitimate refugees. I didn't have a problem with Syrian refugees coming here so why would I have a problem with American refugees?

I posted exactly what you asked for, but that's not what this is about is it? I could post facts and stats but we both know that that wouldn't be enough for captain contrarian so I'm not going to waste my time.

Ditto. I support doing everything possible to help refugees fleeing from the kinds of horrible conditions this caravan is fleeing from. I think they are worth some time, effort, and tax dollars. Stats show that refugees on the whole tend to contribute well to their new countries too, in the long run.
All I would ask of our government is to be more strategic about where refugees go once they arrive. There needs to be a system where a ton of refugees aren't coming into a city already suffering from an unaffordable housing crisis. That is bad for everyone, especially the refugees. If the government set up supports for them in strategic locations across the country, that is where they'd go.
And that's really a big part of the problem. Where do these people settle? Often in run-down areas that have already broken school, gang infested neighborhoods with bad living conditions that are still unaffordable. How many of these end up a great school district versus South-Central LA?
I love Seth. He does a great job. Too bad they had to highlight some of the boneheads that inhabit our beautiful state. MN has a lot of fearful MAGA supporters unfortunately and I live by a whole caravan of them.
