I had to stop reading it ... made me sad.

It reminded me of a show I went to in the late 80s, it was Dio and Megadeth in Portland, ME on a cold January night. It was a GA show, so we got there early.

So, as we stood in line, some bible thumping minister was damning us all, screaming at us from about 25 feet away, telling us we were all going to hell. It went on for about a half hour.

Suddenly, one enormous dude with a booming voice stood forward and yelled "HEY!!!!!"

For a beat ... everyone stopped.

    "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck you, father!"

To which, all of this guy's friends started pelting this minister with snowballs.

I don't condone that ... but, shit, I did laugh.

Guess I'll be seeing Ronnie in hell.

I would've laughed my ass off too.

As for seeing Ronnie in hell, we both will. In fact, I'm fairly certain Ronnie is running hell now. Word around the campfire is that Satan shit his pants when Ronnie arrived.

Ahhh Religious Lunatics strike again. Although I would like to see the Sabbath/Dio crowd put in some work ;)

According to the official web site of the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) -- an independent Baptist church and hate group known for its hatred of homosexuals and its protest activities (which include picketing funerals) -- WBC is planning on picketing Ronnie James Dio's public memorial service on Sunday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m. at The Hall Of Liberty located at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, California. What will presumably one of WBC's standard "peaceful sidewalk demonstrations" is meant to "remind you who worship that old Serpent, Satan, that your time is very short," according to a post on the "Upcoming Picket Schedule" page of the web site. The post continues, "You know 67 year old, Satan-worshiping (or at least one of their enablers) Ronnie James Dio (of showing his devil horns to the world each time he goes in public) BLACK SABBATH fame is dead, right? We'll be there! Just because the chances of any of God's elect being amongst this group of heavy metal sycophants is slim to none does not mean they should not get some good words."

Wow, and it goes on to say even more about RJD (in the name of God?!):

Here you have the list of admitted sins of this now dead and in hell pervert: 1) He hates his neighbor(s) starting with Ozzy Osbourne, and continuing down to his pornography star niece Gen Padova! 2) He hates God. Pay especial attention to the fact that he changed his original sir name from Padanova to Dio, which means "God" in Italian. 3)Ronnie the simpleton enabled, and encouraged Sorceries: everything he was about including the little finger horn thing (he got this from his mother which is an incantation to ward off the "evil eye") to the drugs, bloody raw meat and his fellowship with those pentagram necklace wearing freakish band members. Yes, Ronnie James Padanova (NOT DIO) is currently residing in hell.

Here's hoping that the good Lord has a special treat in store for these nasty, hypocritical people when their day comes.

Oh man, hahahha. I really needed this laugh, so thank you, that was brilliant. Right now, VH1 Classic is airing "Tribute to Dio" and it is frustrating the hell out of me that we don't have VH1C (we rarely watch tv beyond sports, so we have the minimum DirecTV package).

Earlier today, I put all of my Dio albums on random on me iPod. What a catalog that man has. It is amazing. The last Dio solo record, Magica, is very, very good. I recommend any Dio fans go get it. Very melodic, a concept album. The last track is Dio telling a 20 minute narrative of the album's story.

Yeah, like the fucking WBC....I'd be kind of hesitant if I were them honestly, everyone there is going to give them a lot of hell.

It could be an emotional day for many of the attendees, so I hope the WBC doesn't draw them into any skirmishes. It seems as if the WBC never has anything to lose, so they have that advantage.

That's very true. I just find it extremely disrespectful and rude to picket someones memorial/funeral...I mean, really? Do they have to be that radical?

Obsessing today over Dio/Sabbath's "Dehumanizer." Those looking for a RJD fix would do well to check out this very under-rated record.

That IS a great album. It is just flat-out HEAVY (is there a heavier riff anywhere than the one to "After All"?), and full of great metal songs.

I just discovered the Dio-era stuff from the band Rainbow. Has anyone here heard any of it? I'm just absorbing it, but it has aged very, very well. Ritchie Blackmore's guitar with RJD's soaring vocals. Check out the song "Stargazer" from the album entitled Rising. It is over 8 minutes of metal masterpiece. Ron always sounds great, but truthfully, his best vocal performance is in the last 2:15 of this epic. His voice just voice just soars over the building instrumentation, his voice is more of an instrument than just delivering the vox, if you get what I am saying.

When Ron sings around the 6 minute mark,

    "I see a rainbow rising
    Look there on the horizon
    And I'm coming home
    Coming home, I'm coming home"

It is just chilling. Of course he didn't know in 1975 (when this album came out) anything of what would happen in 2010, but it does make you think of than when you hear the music. His voice just wails, it's amazing, check it out.

Very under-rated album. The song After All is fantastic. Dio's vocals were at a new level on that album for sure. I also really love TV Crimes, Computer God, I, and The Wayne's World version of Time Machine.

A friend of mine went to the memorial...she said it was a lovely event. The program they handed-out is very cool.

Sadly, some of the "mourners" have chosen to sell their programs on Ebay. Some of the sellers have amended their auctions so that the proceeds will be donated to RJD's foundation. I can only imagine the hate letters they received prior to doing this!

Just read your post in full. You're now discovering Dio era Rainbow? Oh man, enjoy. I discovered that while in high school and listened to Rising non-stop for God knows how long. 5 powerful, rockin' songs. I hear people say there are only 2 good songs on that album and I fully disagree, I love it all.
