norm, thanks for your shout out. Words can't describe my sadness today. I've been listening to all the Dio I have all day long. Sabbath, Rainbow, Dio, Heaven & Hell...all of it. R.I.P. Ronnie...you're music, voice, and contribution to metal will significantly help push the genre into many, many future generations.
Music, and more specifically metal has just lost one of it's most kind, talented, distinct, and memorable personalities. God, this sucks.... First Peter Steele, and now Dio... This is a cruel world.
Anyways...before I hit the sack, I just finished up my tribute to the man that has made me throw more horns up then I can count.
I meant to say Fenway, thanks for the shout. I was going to edit but for some reason it keeps telling me my image exceeds 480 pixels when it doesn't.

Wow....so sad. I was lucky to have seen him twice. First time was back in '82 during the Mob Rules tour. They played the Arena here in Seattle. Awesome show of which part was recorded for Live Evil. I also was able to catch him with Heaven and Hell last summer. He seemed so vibrant and full of vitality at the time which makes his illness and passing all the more unbelievable. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
I am terribly sad about the news, he shouldn't have left so soon.
Rest in peace!

Only just saw this post now. Such a shame, Dio was a great singer from a great generation. His work with Iommi and Blackmore will always be classic in my view. RIP Ronnie

Stargazer is my go to Rainbow song ... Ritchie Blackmore absolutely kills it and Dio hits all the marks on this one ... love when he gets all powerful, "I believe .... YES! ... I belieeeeeve!"
With his unfortunate death, I'm interesting in hearing a little more of his music. The only songs I can say I know from him are Rainbow in the Dark, The Last in Line, and Heaven and Hell. Anyone have suggestions on a playlist that introduces me to a little more of his stuff?

Black Sabbath:
Heaven and Hell
The Mob Rules
Rainbow:
Rising
Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow
Dio:
Holy Diver
The Last In Line
Lock Up The Wolves
Those are all the albums that I first got introduced to Dio through and I feel confident in my recommendations.
Also, if you happen to run by Black Sabbath's "Dehumanizer", pick it up...it's a great metal album with strong music and Dio's vocals are top-notch.

I think I prefer Sacred Heart and Dream Evil over Lock up the Wolves ... but, Holy Diver and Last in Line are the 2 huge Dio albums to get.
Finally, I'll add last year's "The Devil You Know" from Heaven and Hell to the Dio must have list.
(Heaven and Hell is the Black Sabbath lineup, but, a certain former singer of Sabbath forced them to change their name, so, they went by Heaven and Hell ... that's all I'll say about that.)
Anyway, I'll fully admit, I was a little nervous about "The Devil You know" ... but, damn, that fucker ROCKS!
Here was the "single" if you will ... Bible Black ... in his freakin' mid 60s, listen to Dio .. he still had so much to offer!

All three Rainbow albums featuring Dio are top-notch.....but of the three "Rising" is head and shoulders above the other two...."Stargazer" from "Rising" is pure Ronnie James Dio magic.
All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a thousand enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

I agree. "Rising" is the strongest of Rainbow's three albums with Dio, in my opinion.

I was going to mention "The Devil That You Know", but thought a beginner might not be into it...but on second thought...Dio's vocals on that album are so fucking righteous that it needs to be recommend. Nice call, jimed.
Seriously...my world feels a bit empty with Dio gone....that may seem a little intense, but honestly....I just can't fathom that little monster not around anymore to slay dragons with his vocals. :ugeek:

I could mention Elf...but I won't recommend it only because I never really listened to it much, so I can't say if it was worth hunting down or not. From what I understand it's become a little difficult to find locally. Amazon.com would most likely have it though.

Also I would recommend Heaven And Hell Live at Radio City Music Hall 2007. You can get it on double cd or dvd and it is awesome. A great document of the power and showmanship of Dio. When you here his voice it's hard to believe he was 65 years old when it was recorded.
Agree with DCs post on where to start but I'd also add the Rainbow album Long Live Rock N Roll. Worth getting for the song Gates Of Babylon alone.

Fuck yes! That DVD is ...well...RIGHTEOUS! There really aren't words to sum up how bad ass it is. I don't think I need to stress how awesome anything that Dio involved himself with is...I guess I'm just that much of a fanatic.
I will agree with you on LLRn'R...that song is ace.

Ronnie James Dio Public Memorial to be Held
May 20th 2010 7:35AM
by Chris Cope
Fans will be able to celebrate the life of Ronnie James Dio at the end of May at a public memorial service due to take place in Los Angeles.
It will be held on May 30 at The Hall of Liberty on Forest Lawn Drive at 2PM local time, and is open to fans from across the globe who wish to pay their respects to the ex-Rainbow/Black Sabbath singer.
The official Ronnie James Dio website says it is working on acquiring hotel discounts for those who are travelling from afar, and to check the official Facebook group for more details.
Wendy Dio, the singer's manager and wife, has requested in lieu of sending flowers, people should instead donate to the Ronnie James Dio 'Stand Up And Shout Cancer Fund' by sending donations to: Niji Entertainment Group, 12400 Ventura Blvd. #624, Studio City, CA 91604, USA.
Since Dio's death on May 16 after his battle with stomach cancer, a multitude of stars from the rock and metal world have sung his praises, including Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, who penned an open letter to the singer, as previously reported on Spinner.

WBC... Learn some fucking respect. This is god damn ridiculous. It's not just my bias as a Dio fanatic...but seriously...picketing a funeral/memorial service? How ignorant, stupid, and relentless zealots do you ahve to be to satisfy your desire to spread your fucking stupid beliefs.
I know that is jsut my opinion...but for God's sake, this is one of the most inconsiderate things I have ever heard.

It reminded me of a show I went to in the late 80s, it was Dio and Megadeth in Portland, ME on a cold January night. It was a GA show, so we got there early.
So, as we stood in line, some bible thumping minister was damning us all, screaming at us from about 25 feet away, telling us we were all going to hell. It went on for about a half hour.
Suddenly, one enormous dude with a booming voice stood forward and yelled "HEY!!!!!"
For a beat ... everyone stopped.
"Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck you, father!"
To which, all of this guy's friends started pelting this minister with snowballs.
I don't condone that ... but, shit, I did laugh.
Guess I'll be seeing Ronnie in hell.

Good call on Stargazer, It just doesn't get much better. I forgot just how great Rainbow was!!
~E.V.

:ugeek:

Doubtful, but possible.
