My (now ex) wife and I took my mother to a concert years ago. She was only in her mid 50s, but she really loved it and did her best to rock out all night. The next day she was walking around with a cane and when her friends asked her what was wrong she just turned to them and said "Pearl Jam concert" and walked away, haha.

She likes that kind of music, though, and keeps up with newer bands/technology/etc, and went to see Muse a month ago when they performed in her area.

I've got my dad coming to Belfast with me. He's 48, so not that old, but he's never really listened to Pearl Jam (this is going to be rectified soon, hopefully!). He loves The Who and old punk bands though, so he might be alright...
And I planted my bolo knife in the neck of mad John Finn. I took his wretched life.
Now I'm over near the bandstand, every hand moving on John Finn's wife...

    Hey

Ive been to 20 pj shows. My mom finally got it after i traveled the country and saw them so much. So for my 20th show, she asked if she could go too (my gf was a little weary) but sure enough, she came along to austin city limits.

What was great was that my stepdad told her your gonna get hurt, theres gonna be a mosh pit etc etc... so she and i worked our way up to the rail (i think to prove him wrong) and she looked at me on the 2nd song and said WOW! Listen to the singing and i smiled and said, thats what its about.

She had a good time. My mom is 48, and im honored to have brought her to a pj show. I know to her its not the same, but she gets it now and appertained the music, she was air guitaring and rocking out.

So yea! bring her. You wont regret it...

You know I will Eric. Me and the wife will be at the Harp around 4ish. I am getting out of work around 1pm so it will give me just enough time to get home, showered and hop on the commuter rail to N. Station. See you there.

  • Don't underestimate us seasoned souls. My husband and I (both 53) won the lottery in St. Louis and rocked right along with the rest of the fans lucky enough to be front row. The love for this band bridges the generation gap. I have been in the fan club since 1995 and we've seen our share of memorable shows (after St. Louis he is now regularly listening to PJ on his Ipod - thank goodness he's finally come around :) Looking forward to MSG 2!

Hey Crazy...careful posting ages here, as there are some out there passing judgment on the "proper" ages of Pearl Jam concert goers. I've heard I'm a bad parent for bringing my kids...be prepared to hear that you're a bad kid for bringing a senior.

Tell Moms to enjoy the show dude...I'd drag my folks along if they had better taste in music. Seeing the look on my sons' faces as we sang together in Columbus made me wish I had that with my old man.

Crazy, I think that's great that your mom is taking interest in a passion of yours and is going. Who knows, maybe she becomes a fan. Just watch out for that Petrocs guy. I heard he hopes you call him "dad" one day....

I'm in my mid-50's, and have been a fan from the start. I got my kids tickets to the 2003 show in Bristow, and they refused to go unless I came with them. I'm the one who introduced them to this band, and they thought I deserved to go to the concert. I thought I was too old then to go to a rock concert (went to many back in my teens & 20's), but went & had a blast, and have been hooked on the concerts every since. I've never felt funny being at a concert -- I feel like I belong. My daughter usually goes with me, although I've taken my husband a couple of times when my daughter & son couldn't make it. Here's my tip for your mom -- pre-game with three Advil. Not as much fun as pre-gaming with beer, but it works like a charm.

My wife and i saw Green Day last year, great f'n seats!!!, infront of us was a 17 girl with her 57 year old dad, by the end of the night i was DONE, sat for the last two songs, that old man blew me away as much as the band did!!!, If your mom's in good health, bring her, rock out.
  • My Mom and I went to see Eddie Vedder in Honolulu last July.
She gave Ed 2 standing ovations! It was a very memorable show.
    She was 83 years young.

I agree. 50 somethings and 60 somethings can enjoy Pearl Jam as much as 20 somethings and 30 somethings. I've been listening since '92 and became a devoted following after Yield. Was I supposed to quit when I hit 40? 50? Sorry - not gonna happen.
