You know it's going to be a great show when you get Crazy Mary. I can cross that off my list now.

Speaking of....Eddie passed his wine down to the crowd during that song! I got some passed around! One more reason this was a once in a lifetime show.

    Awesome. He definitely loved Hartford.

  • Am I in the minority here? I absolutely hated the venue. Reminded me too much of the continental airlines or izod whatever it is now.. Packed in like sardines on the concourse, horrible long lines & not enough bathrooms.

I'll take the meadows over this dump any day.

But none of that mattered once the lights came down..
under your tongue, im like a tab.. i will give you what your not supposed to have

in wide open spaces we sing, with strings.. launch a full on musical cannonball.. guided by bells that we bring, they ring.. sound for the sky and the sun, our own waterfall...

one with the raging wind, alive on the highest tides, my ship at sail can climb a mountain.. ride it to the sky

The Civic Center (XL) is a typical, built in the 70's arena....not too big, super steep...so everyone feels close, even if you're up high. I've been to all the shows at the Meadows(Dodge)....and the vibe on Saturday was so much more electric. The Meadows shows have all been very good, especially 2008, but something just gets lost when you're outside...the vast majority of the crowd is on the lawn...miles away

I dont think anyone was saying they loved the arena because the hot dog line was short...that stuff is immaterial

I don't know man... at the meadows it took me 45 min to get from the bathroom and back at the show in 06.
I had no issues at the XL. and the sound quality was light years beyond the meadows.

It was my first time there (XL Center), and when you're actually inside the venue it does have a "small" feel to it - kind of reminded me of the Sovereign Center in Reading PA they played in '04 for the V4C shows. I don't know though, maybe it is just the steep sides that made it feel less expansive or maybe I've just spent too much time at MSG and amphitheaters. When I think of all the places that I've seen PJ, I'd be inclined to think it was one of the smaller arenas. Beacon Theater in '08 was definitely the smallest venue I've ever (and probably will ever) see them in, but I really didn't mind the Hartford venue when it came to the actual concert (stage setup, sight lines, sound). Your points about bathrooms/concession lines/etc are well taken though, that place was a shitshow to walk through. Walking through the halls with a beer in your hand without wearing half of it by the time you'd reached the entrance to your section was quite the feat. Most importantly, the 10C ticket line was NOT the nightmare it was 2yrs ago in Hartford, so this place had that going for it too - still mad about that fiasco and I only missed 2.5 songs!

Oh, and I've seen some grumblings here about the sound. From where I was (Sec 114), there were definitely parts where the sound system was malfunctioning and, uh, sputtering? I noticed it happening on and off for the entire 2nd half of the show, and it was most noticeable on vocals (to me at least). While slightly annoying, nothing's perfect - all in all a great show!

Let's be honest an average show, (18th time seeing them and have never been disappointed)
But to be more honest...Average by this band's standard is Extrordinary. those songs that aren't played are rare for a reason. Set list was great. (Yeah I still want to hear Brother! But my life isn't over because they didn't play it) Covers were good. Nice tight arena. Sound was good, guys brought it big time.
And no it wasn't the 4 spectrum shows, the boston expirement, a vote for change tour length of state college, etc it was a good saturday night in Hartford.
So many amazing shows! Thank you.

that was so much fun. gorgeous day, hit no traffic, ran into a bunch of ppl we knew, had a beer at black bear, tailgated right across the street, caught all of BoH who i thought were excellent...

great seats, centered on the floor in row H. thanks ten club! i am so thankful i never skipped renewing my club dues. band and crowd energy, performance... the whole evening was just a great fucking time start to finish.

"i don't come to your house and demand pancakes for breakfast"... LOL. i don't care how many times people have seen this band, or where your seats were, or if vedder personally ripped out one of his molars and gave it to you, there are a lot of critics! half the time it's people gloating... "oh, show was alright, but i'm going in two days!" or "they played a better version of that song when i saw them on a private floating island"...

pearl jam fans should be intelligent enough to realize it's all subjective. your worst song is someone else's best, and same goes for venue, seats, sound, setlist, crowd. when people start with their "coulda, woulda, shoulda's" on here, not only do i think it is a little bit of an affront to the fans who either had the time of their life or don't have as many notches under their belts, #1, but #2, whether you realize it or not, i think it makes you sound like, let's say, an ungrateful piece of shit lol

that being said, every time i see them i always have the time of my life, and saturday was no exception. hope to hit the venue earlier for whatever my next show is, to have a few beers with you knuckleheads!

So the show was Awesome.Just about everything that night was perfect, good friends, new friends, great music, etc. Now let me tell ya about the two drunk canadian jackasses seated to my left.(No offense canada its not ur bad)Things are going great,Pearl jam just gets going,3rd song is rocking. The place is electric.I just got done with a nice social burn,im feeling it,rocking hard.Suddenly I feel some kind of liquid hitting my ankle and sneaker.I think to myself,no big deal.someone just spilled there beer,,shit happens at a show right?Well in this case it was piss.Thats right,I look down to see what spilled and what I saw wasnt a spilled beer,It was ,crank, pissing right there on the floor,my sneakers, and the back of the seat in front of him.If that wasnt enough,he gets done and his friend starts pissing.I couldnt believe it!Now for the next 2 hrs Im standing in some dudes freaking pee.It wasnt just a damn dribble either,it was one of them 13 beer draining pisses. It was a damn puddle of filth.I had 10c seats and was in row R.After threating the asswipes, they manages to keep there junk tucked in.too little too late.

Nice show, good crowd in our section, great weather, nice walking around downtown beforehand, and free street parking, can't beat that. So glad they didn't play the Meadows. Poster was cool but I didn't care for the t-shirts. Not one of my top ten shows by any means though. I think I was the only guy who didn't know Ain't Talking 'Bout Love. I too was thinking Whale Song, based on Ed's comments. My jersey didn't help. Here's my photos.

That's what I forgot to ask the security guard that was at my section. My buddy and I were talking to him before the show and he was really down to earth. I forgot to ask if he can get me a setlist after the show.

Was at the show. Crowd and PJ had great energy. Ed was in phenomonal voice. Satan's Bed and Lukin (as Ed called it, Satan's Kitchen) back to back were fantastic. Set list was dissapointing for me though, especially when I saw the set list Boston got. Wow.

Personally I would take the setlist in Hartford over the Boston one any day of the week. Just because a song is rare does not mean its better!
