I didn't see the Twins game, but Maddon deserved it. The only reason he visited the mound was to argue with the umpires and get ejected. He even admitted it.
From the Tampa Tribune:
After the home run, Rays manager Joe Maddon went out to the mound with the sole purpose of arguing the call on Young's check swing. He was ejected for arguing balls and strikes, which he later said was his objective.
"I wanted to make a statement and jack up the team a little," Maddon said. "It didn't work."
But otherwise I agree with you. The umpires should never be the focus of the game yet somehow they manage to do just that and they become a big part of the story.
With that said though, they had a long leash with Shoppach acting like a bitch yesterday. If I was the ump, I would have tossed his whiny ass. Especially after using the magic word like he did.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

Wow, that is a lot.
How accurate are those strike zone trackers though? Has anyone looked into that?DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13

This is the graph I saw, I know there are a few others as well.
Edit: and it seems there are a whole lot more red squares outside of the zone that triangles, so Minnesota can't really complain.0 -

I noticed plenty of bad calls both ways. Of course, right after blowing a Yankees' strikeout a HR follows. That's the way it goes sometimes. I still don't want a computer calling balls & strikes. The problem is you just need better umpires, and the union has turned it into a patronage position.Spectrum 10/27/09; New Orleans JazzFest 5/1/10; Made in America 9/2/12; Phila, PA 10/21/13; Phila, PA 10/22/13; Baltimore Arena 10/27/13; Phila, PA 4/28/16; Phila, PA 4/29/16; Fenway Park 8/7/16; Fenway Park 9/2/18; Asbury Park 9/18/21; Camden 9/14/22; Las Vegas 5/16/24; Las Vegas 5/18/24; Phila, PA 9/7/24; Phila, PA 9/9/24; Baltimore Arena 9/12/24; Pittsburgh 5/16/25; Pittsburgh 5/18/25

Yeah, I'm not saying that these managers didn't deserve to be tossed. Just the fact that managers are allowing themselves to be tossed in playoff games due to absolutely terrible umpiring is a complete fucking joke. I mean, honestly, I thought the postseason was reserved for the best umpiring crews??0 -
Did anyone watch the Braves/Giants game last night? They must have showed the replay of Buster Posey stealing second about 8 times and the announcers never once mentioned that he was indeed OUT! At least by a foot or two. Granted, the ump may have not had the best angle and it was difficult for him to see the tag, but for it to be obvious in instant replay and not once have the announcers mention it surprised the hell out of me. Of course he went on to score which was the only run of the game.We were but stones your light made us stars0

Bobby Cox had stated that his guys did not do anything as to a reaction. That is why he never went out to argue the call. There was no emotion by any of the players as to a blown call. If you are looking at the call from the umps position which I believe was the right position (he was where every single unpire stands to make that call), Posey looked like he got in under the tag. If you look at the replay from the other angle, he looks out. It's called HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE!!

Gotcha. I thought about that after I wrote my response. There have been some pretty bad calls so far no doubt.DAL-7/5/98,10/17/00,6/9/03,11/15/13
