great game yesterday...but i dont get how joe buck gets to call the WS when his hometown team is in it...talk about bias

and why is it..whenever teams back into the playoffs...they go far....this yr's cards, rockies in 07...packers last yr...jets 2 yrs ago....very strange

I thought Buck was fine. He is obviously hoping the Cards win, but I don't think it came off that way. I think he does a good job at baseball.

As a lifelong Cardinal fan, I don't see Buck as being a homer for the Cardinals. Well, not on the same level that Brian Anderson on TBS was for the Brewers. Now THAT was obvious. In fact, when the Cardinals won in 2006, I expected more emotion out of Buck, but he played it calm and cool. I think it sounds like he is in the tank for the Cardinals because he is so familiar with the team. He knows them inside and out, but I think he plays it down the middle.

    He's no Jack Buck though.

I didn't really know who all was saying what, but I got the impression that the coverage is either a) For the Rangers and convinced they were going to win. Or b) Trying to set up the Cardinals as some sort of underdog story. Seems like I kept hearing about how great the Rangers were and how St. Louis "snuck into the playoffs", were outmatched (I haven't followed them so I don't know how good they really are) and basically saying it would be some type of miracle if St. Louis won the World Series. Sportscasters love to create a narrative though, even if there isn't really one there, but they definitely made it sound like the Rangers should be beating the hell out of the Cardinals and they are proving their mettle by winning Game 1.

Nobody is!! Joe got the voice, but he didn't get nearly as much as that magic his dad had. Greatest announcer ever, imo.

I love listening to Mike Shannon too. Just an amazing voice that more than makes up for his usual half drunken calls.

Yeah, what I've seen is analyst talking about how evenly matched they are and when it comes time to make a pick they talk about how dominant Texas is. I don't get how they're favored virtually across the board. Larussa has clearly outmanaged everybody and the team is really clicking offensively and defensively and getting quite a few breaks.
