I really don't get why the Cardinals are struggling to sign Pujols to an extension. Apparently he wants something like 10 years, $300 million. This guy is going to go down as one of the best players ever. Give him whatever he wants....you can't let this guy get to free agency. I just don't get this...

They don't want to pay $30M a year for a 40-year-old who's potentially over the hill and has nothing left. Like the Yanks will be doing with Rodriguez.

Exactly. Pujols is absolutley worth the $30 mil a year right now and more than likely for the next 4-5 yrs. But paying someone $30 mil a year in their late 30's and early 40's is just moronic. As a Cubs fan I hope the Cardinals do it and become strapped for the next decade like the Cubs are for the moronic signing of Alfonso I Suck Balls Soriano. Any team giving any player a 10 year deal regardless of age is stupid. These guys should be getting 5 year deals tops. Its a fn joke some of the contracts these guys get.

    GODZILLA !!!!!

and the nl pitchers hit WAYYYYbetter and bunt 1 million x better so don't say that holds little weight

you ever see a pitcher win a world series mvp because of his hitting? dude....

no ..but don't make it like the pitchers cancel each other out...you know the NL pitchers who bat 3-4 x every 5 days as opposed to 3-4 times per year are a bigger factor

i said it's either a wash or a slight advantage to the nl. in '09 nl pitchers batted .139. al pitchers batted .114. most of them suck dude. you (well maybe not you  ) can count the number of "good" hitting pitchers one one hand. hint: they're not all in the nl and one of them goes by "cc." in contrast the yankees dh in '09 batted .275, hit 28 home runs, and drove in over 90 rbis....and was the mvp of the world series. see my point? ;)

anyway you look at it, it's an incredibly unfair advantage. baseball either needs to get rid of it or put it in both leagues. there should not be such a built in discrepancy in a professional sport.

Well, I'm not feeling all that great about the Rangers this year. The loss of Lee certainly hurts, but the division was won before he got here.

What hurts is this whole stupid Michael Young situation. Both sides have handled this terribly. Feels like the Rangers were telling him one thing then doing something else, but the way he went to the press with it right before spring training was unprofessional in my opinion. Now they are stuck trying to trade him to a limited number of team and the whole world knows it so the Rangers have no leverage. He needs to STFU and play ball.

Well, the offense is pretty much the same except the addition of Beltre and the subtraction of Vlad. But the defense is much improved and the pitching staff is about the same as it was pre-Cliff. That just means they still have some holes in the pitching staff.

I think you're underestimating the A's. Their pitching is awesome, and they've got some bats to go along with it this year.

The tiny NL pitcher vs. AL pitcher batting advantage is completely wiped out by the huge, overpaid AL DH over some random NL pinch hitter or bench player advantage. Remember John Olerud vs. Ricky Jordan? Ugh.

Oh by the way, the real 2009 World Series MVP was Chase Utley. Too bad nobody wants to vote for the losing team.

or...you can leave him in, like Vlad, and watch him absolutely butcher plays in the outfield

Actually, I think the most important defensive play in the 2004 World Series was made by David Ortiz, when he threw out Jeff Suppan at third base in the first inning of game 3. I was at the game and thinking to myself "Don't throw the ball!" And he threw it, Bill Mueller applied the tag and I was like "Way to throw the ball Papi, good heads up!"

I'm reading Rosenthal said they offered him the 10th highest contract in baseball at about 19-21 mil/season. Yeesh, what an insult. St. Louis signing Holliday will reeeeally look like a dumb move if they don't resign Poop Holes.

Looks like Al's gonna be a Cub or Met next year.

Ken Rosenthal has them at 8 or 9 years and $21 million a yeah. That would have made the best player in baseball the 10th highest paid player. Not going to happen.

do you realistically think the mets with all their troubles and everything else have a chance at albert

i just cant see them signing albert at what he's asking for. even if you do sign him to a big contract your thusly saying bye bye to reyes if he has a healthy year.

Weren't you the one just a couple weeks ago saying that the Isle dude was getting in on this, things were going to turn for the better, etc. etc. etc.?

The Mets can have as much money as they want, just as long as they want to spend it correctly. And Pujols is an exception I think they'd make room for - especially in New York. It would the biggest splash they could make to make sure Citi Field is packed, plus taking headlines away from the Yanks. Pujols is the exception to probably every rule/guideline out there. Also, I'm just preparing for a worst case scenario - that's the other side of this for me.

And if I were you, I'd be saying sayonara to Reyes in a New York minute if it meant bringing in Poop Holes.

well in a new yawk minute things go from bad to worse and with the mets thats the norm  :(

the mets have never spent money correctly under the coupons. ffs they didn't even want piazza.

reyes shoulda been gone years ago but we didn't have the ss in the pipeline like we do now. yes i do want reyes gone just cause he's part of the old regime and we will want money he doesnt deserve.

While $21 million is an obscene amount of money, that's a slap in the face to Pujols from Cardinals. He is hands down the best player in the game and thats what they offer him???

Pujols is a douche. So is larussa.

If pujols signs for less than the 25 mill per year that howard got my head is going to explode.

No way I'd give him 10 years if I were the cards. Dude is 31 already, his body looks like he's 45, and his elbow is a mess.
