I remember being really excited for Tommy Hanson. Too bad it never worked out and I was shocked to see his passing. I'm 29 too, so that kinda threw me off.

Hell of a haul for Kimbrel

Hell of a haul for Kimbrel

Red Sox have a DEEP farm system, and those players were blocked by young players that are in the Majors already.

Kimbrel is under control for 3 years which is a added bonus for the Red Sox.

That's fine but they could have signed Miller last year for pretty much the exact same salary and not get rid of 3 legit prospects

Dombrowski loves depleting a farm. That is not a good trade, especially with koji

Again, Red Sox have a deep system and those players are blocked by YOUNG players already.

Especially with Koji? He's 40 and coming off a injury. Craig Kimbrel is 27(turns 28 in May) and again, is under control for 3 years, and is MORE then proven he's a stud closer who's in his PRIME.

Red Sox, or any other team can't outbid the Yankees(in this case for Miller). Sox wanted and tried to sign Miller, but he took the Yankees offer.

Yeah, Dombrowski does love to deplete the Farm, but HOPEFULLY the ownership won't let him do that, and if he does: he BETTER bring a WS Title back to Boston.

I guess it just doesn't matter to me whether they were blocked or not. I just think that 3 good prospects for a closer is too much to give up. I wanted the Yanks to go after Kimbrel too so I don't doubt how good he is, but I wouldn't want the yanks to give up a similar package of players for a closer regardless if they are blocked.
  • That was too many prospects for a closer regardless of how good he is. How much better did Chapman make the Reds this past season? Those prospects could have been used to try and land better starting pitching. I still think Price ends up a Cub and Greinke is not going to the AL. Red Sox need front line pitchers and trading for one would have been a smarter use of excess prospects.

2 things: The Yankees, basically have 2 closers in Miller & Betances and they don't have the wealth of prospects/suspects, the sox have>LOL>A lot of their top prospects are already up with the Red Sox. Plus, they have plenty of more,(if you believe everything you read/hear about their Farm system).

I doubt those prospects would've garnered a front line pitcher. I think they would have to give up their TOP prospect or 2, and MAYBE even a Mookie Betts or Xander Bogaerts to get a deal done for a front line pitcher. Have a feeling the Red Sox will just rip out the check book and over-pay for a FA pitcher this Winter. Who? Not really sure right now.

They do and one is on the block. Would fucking love for the yanks to get the Boston haul for Miller. I'd do that in a heart beat.

A young, everyday player like him... oh yea it will be big. Especially if he keeps this 1.1 OPS going.

Giancarlo Stanton got $325 so I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm just looking this up and it looks like Price is tied for the highest all time on a per year basis (tied with Miguel Cabrera). Kershaw barely in second and then Sherzer a million before that.

  • Now they are saying Greinke will get slightly more per year but only a 5 or 6 year deal. He is negotiating with the Giants and Dodgers and will be signed before the end of this week, more than likely in the next 48 hours. 6 years at 190 is what the current rumor is he will get.

Not a huge fan of these monster contracts, but you have to pay this type of money in todays game if you don't want to part with your farm system. Hopefully it will allow some of the younger pitchers to develop.
