"The Royals have bolstered their starting rotation for 2013 thanks to the addition of two quality pitchers. Kansas City has agreed to acquire right-hander James Shields, right-hander Wade Davis and a player to be named or cash from Tampa Bay in exchange for outfielder Wil Myers, right-hander Jake Odorizzi, left-hander Mike Montgomery and third baseman Patrick Leonard, according to a team release."

Seemed inevitable that Myers would be traded. Great prospect, but unproven at the major league level. Kind of surprised that top pitching prospect Odorizzi was involved in the trade too in addition to Montgomery and Leonard. Definitely an old fashioned baseball trade.

I wonder if the Royals gave up too much though. Only time will tell!

I just wonder where the Royals think they're going with this?

    Desperation. Terrible trade.

They could have just as easily finished 70-92 without making this deal.

and they are still in the black with their tv deal right?

    that is fucking nuts.

Seems that way. Maybe not this year, but they will be. Insane.

Yeah, he definitely has the upside for sure. Lots of power, but we'll see how his BA is at the major league level. Strikes out a ton too. Exciting player though!

So now that Arizona has their shortstop. have to figure Hamilton back to the Rangers is only a matter of time.

Red Sox still haven't announced the Napoli deal.

Yeah, Rosenthal is saying now that the deal isn't in jeopardy but there are some issues to work through.

    Wow.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. Pretty crowded LA outfield. Maybe I'll do some research on how various "Super Teams" have fared. My hunch is "not well" historically. My gut tells me LA doesn't disprove that trend (if it is, indeed, a trend).

ya ... if you believe the rumours ... struck out on upton, greinke, hamilton and shields ... this is the thing with mlb ... if you don't want to overpay - you can be sure someone does ... i think if teams wait for the dust to settle - there should be decent FA at more reasonable dollars ...
