Jason Bay to the Mariners....at least the Mariners won't have to worry about him skewing the team's offensive numbers.

Meanwhile, the Twins have offers out to Joe Saunders and Francisco Liriano (hmmm...). Normally, I might be shitting myself in disbelief and frustration that my hard-earned money is being flushed down the toilet (yes, MY hard-earned money, I've been a season ticket holder for nearly a decade!), but 2013 will also be a "rebuilding" year for the Twins. By most expectations, 2014-2015 will be a year when many of the Twins prospects turn into players. Of course, we've seen that type of thinking implode before, but you have to have hope after two piss-poor years.

So yeah, go ahead and pursue two non-solutions (prove me wrong, Joe and Frank) for this year and hope that the following years are much, much better.

By the way, I thought Boston was going to be budget-conscious. Wow...$39M for Shane Victorino?

Didn't the Red Sox dump $250 MILLION with that trade with the Dodgers?

Though, Victorino is NOT worth 39M. And neither is Angel Pagan worth 40M. These contracts for these players are RIDICULOUS!! But, i guess it's good for them if they can get it>$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Twins trade Ben Revere to Phillies for pitching prospects (Vance Worley and Trevor May).

This is interesting, if only because the Twins just traded Denard Span to the Nats. At different times, both Span and Revere were considered the CFs of the future for the Twins.

The rebuilding continues...what exactly is being rebuilt...I'm not sure yet...

  • Does anyone else find it insane that Zack Greinke will be getting a contract in excess of $150M????? These teams are fucking nuts with the money they are throwing around.

the thing is ... there are like 2 teams in the running ... pretty much the majority of the teams are priced out on even greinke's jock strap ...

    there's this:

He also has as little power as any current major league regular, which in turn limits his ability to hit for average because pitchers are unafraid to challenge him.

Yeah, it is crazy. Greinke is a very good pitcher, but that price is insane.

RUMOR ALERT: L.A. Times and Yahoo! reporting #DODGERS working on 6-year $145 million deal for Zack Greinke.

Wow. The same guy who once sat out a year due to some type of social anxiety disorder just signed a guaranteed $145M contract. Crazy.

Baseball is the sport that you hope your little boy can someday make it big.
The money that is thrown around to even the worst players is ridiculous.
And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.

Wow, Dodgers. This payroll is going to be insane.
  • Well, now that the Rangers missed out on Greinke I hope we get the Josh Hamilton situation taken care of. Soon, please!

    And bye to Michael Young.

Yeah, man. It will certainly be an interesting year to say the least. I'd like to be a fly on the wall of that clubhouse.

Hardball Talk has them at over $210 mil in payroll and with luxury tax at $233 mil. Now that the Yankees are cheap, there is a new team to get hated on for payroll

For a guy who supposedly has "anxiety" issues, Greinke's not afraid to be the center of attention when $147 million is involved.

"The Royals have bolstered their starting rotation for 2013 thanks to the addition of two quality pitchers. Kansas City has agreed to acquire right-hander James Shields, right-hander Wade Davis and a player to be named or cash from Tampa Bay in exchange for outfielder Wil Myers, right-hander Jake Odorizzi, left-hander Mike Montgomery and third baseman Patrick Leonard, according to a team release."

Seemed inevitable that Myers would be traded. Great prospect, but unproven at the major league level. Kind of surprised that top pitching prospect Odorizzi was involved in the trade too in addition to Montgomery and Leonard. Definitely an old fashioned baseball trade.

I wonder if the Royals gave up too much though. Only time will tell!
